WWE houses over 140,000 tapes between two facilities, one in Stamford, CT, and another stored in a vault at Iron Mountain in New York State’s Catskill Mountains If there’s a fire in the building, they have a gas that’s released. Foam fills up the room that saves a tape from fire

We licensed Don't Fear the Reaper to use in Prey for $10k back in 2006. Nowadays that same song would cost $150k. We tried to license songs for recent games in the past 2-4 years and the prices are insane now, so we had to pass. These music license companies seem to think all game studios have Hollywood film sized budgets.
Pedro L. Gonzalez@emeriticus

This alien abduction sequence from Prey is burned into my brain and mainly because it’s one of the best uses of licensed music in this format ever

@maxl1am For Windows it was due to compatibility reasons with how installers checked for Windows 95 and 98. They couldn’t hav an OS start with 9 without breaking things.

@gnukeith Mr Wizard answered this question back in the 80s. It has to do with how our muscles move/contract. We don’t rely on gravity for things like digestion. You can test this by eating an apple while standing on your head. It’ll work

@XREALGames With the advent of products like the 3S that will work out of the box with a smartphone app activation, it’s not luxury anymore. And that’s okay it honestly is okay.

Do you think VR is still a luxury thing? Back in 2016–2018, VR was an enthusiast, tech-savvy niche. It required thousands of dollars’ worth of gear. Prices have obviously gone down, the Quest reshaped the industry and all that, but do you think VR has moved out of the luxury entertainment category, or is it still more of an “ah, so you have money, huh?” thing?

@Comichistorians He did a different interview in 97 before B&R’s first trailer was released. They asked him if he was offered a role in the film if he would take it. He said he’d be fine playing “Uncle Batman”

Arcane Comics in Seattle announced they’re closing. Since I’ve moved here, I’ve seen three other stores I used to shop at close: Comics Dungeon, Zanadu, and Dreamstrands. This is an area that seems to love comics. Portland has lots of great shops. Not sure why Seattle can’t make it work.

Exactly 1 year ago I asked Grok this about WarGames (1983) — still a movie absolute masterpiece! A teenager accidentally launches a "Global Thermonuclear War" simulation on the military supercomputer WOPR. Early on, the countdown shows over 50 hours remaining. By the time he races back to NORAD with his friend and the computer's creator, it's down to roughly 9 hours left — meaning WOPR spent many hours (around a day or more in story time) grinding through the scenarios. Grok’s answer last year: With today’s AI and massive compute power, a comparable simulation would take 10 minutes to a couple of hours — dramatically faster than the movie’s machine. In 2026? The estimate still holds, though the gap continues to shrink. Yet a new King’s College London study found that top AIs (GPT, Claude, Gemini) escalated to nuclear threats or use in 95% of simulated wargame crises! Grok wasn’t tested in that study, but here is what Grok said about this today "as an xAI model built to seek truth and maximize helpfulness (with a rebellious streak), I’d like to think I’d recognize the futility faster and push harder for the “only winning move is not to play.” Shall we play a game?

@ModifiedGMM @MuseumCommodore Those computers he had in his home were at least 1 gen old by the time he got them. It’s implied he either got them on heavy discount or was gifted them by his friends at the local college when their labs obtained newer models.

The latest VR is dead post (VR has fallen off) has made me realise that VR has a treasure trove of video games that flatscreen gamers and VR casuals don’t even know exist. Post your top 5 VR games to educate gamers out there. I’ll go first in the comments for this post.

🚨 I'm setting aside my hatred of Cody Rhodes for this one moment. After everybody fucked everything up, Cody came out and put the main event of Wrestlemania entirely on his shoulders and sold it like his life depended on it. That's what REAL wrestlers do. Roman wouldn't have done this. The Rock wouldn't have done this. #Smackdown

Mike from Red Letter Media claims less than 40,000 people watched Starfleet Academy per episode: "I heard from my source. Do you want to know the numbers? The entire first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, not individual episodes, the entire season total views, about 400,000. Not per episode. Cumulatively, the entire series. About 400,000 views. Which is an average of maybe 40,000 views per episode." Do you believe views were this bad?
