Most successful entrepreneurs you talk to, if they're being honest, would say something along the lines of, "If I knew everything I know now, I would not have done it." The kind of people who decide they want to be founders because they think it is cool always fail. They fail because it's a deeply painful and lonely journey, and those people will jump ship. Maybe they are the smart ones. For the rest of you, it's a Long Strange Trip...

I always thought this was a brilliant move by TechCrunch. I wasn’t a fan of the name. The Crunchy made it sound too tongue in cheek and almost dismissive of the level of effort required to produce something of value. I think this done right would still be brilliant and would be a valuable service to the ecosystem. At least how it used to be was that the people in our industry weren’t motivated just by money. Maybe that’s changed today.

@gao_zibo @tbpn This was kind of TechCrunch’s The Crunchy awards, a gala at the symphony hall in SF. Eventually we realized *unimaginable wealth* was a sufficient prize. But the second half of your list would be fun

In this clip @MattMahanSJ explains what the "billionaire tax" will end up being. A middle class tax increase. If you vote yes on this, you're basically screwing yourself.

This is wrong. It assumes that new grads don't learn new skills. I'll let you in on a secret. AI, in whatever way we use it, is going to change, continuously, for YEARS GenZ is AI native and will keep up. The non native AI generations?😀 No chance.

Woo hoo! Thrilled to share a sneak peek of HubCode -- The Vibe Coding Tool for HubSpot. I talked about this a few weeks ago (which feels like forever). Been cranking on it and am ready to show you the actual app now. Link to video in the comments. Or, just type video.hubcode .com in your browser (it takes you to YouTube). Some notes: 1) This requires no terminal -- runs completely in the cloud. 2) You can vibe code both app cards and full apps that live inside the HubSpot web UI. 3) Generated apps can access data within HubSpot (of course). 4) SUPER EXCITING: Apps can reuse any of the public agents in agent .ai (there are 2,000+ of them). This makes your apps super-powerful because you can access all sorts of data and services. And, you can build your own private agents and access them too. This gives you access to all the major frontier models (GPT, Opus, Gemini), and a bunch of really useful data sources and a ton of other capability. Go to agent .ai to see what's available. The demo shows pulling YouTube videos related to a company right into the app card. 5) You can paste in screenshots or other visuals as part of your vibe coding process (if you haven't done this before, it will feel magical). The HubCode app runs on the agent .ai platform and is in private beta (because this one's going to take some testing and iteration given the power and flexibility). To apply, just go to hubcode .com. This is an early "proof of concept", but will be iterating on it maniacally as I get user feedback. Let me know what you think. All thoughts, ideas, feedback and wishlist items appreciated. FEEDBACK IS A GIFT. Thank you for your support.

Is Gavin Newsom’s claim that Texas and Florida are “the REAL high-tax states” true? NO. It’s false. Let’s break this down. Here’s approximately where each state ranks at $50,000, $100,000, $500,000 and $1,000,000 of annual income with notes below. $50,000 •California - 4th highest •Texas: ~ 34th •Florida: ~43rd $100,000 •California - 4th •Texas: ~ 34th •Florida: ~43rd $500,000 •California - 1st •Texas: ~ 40th •Florida: ~43rd $1,000,000 •California - 1st •Texas: ~ 43rd •Florida: ~45th California has the highest state income tax rate in the U.S. (up to 13.3% but even at $50,000 it’s effectively around 2-3%), while Texas and Florida have no state income tax (0%). CA has the highest gasoline tax. TX and FL significantly lower. Just compare per gallon cost all in. CA also has among the highest sales taxes (base 7.25%, with many cities near or above 10%), while Texas has 6.25% base (up to 8.25% combined) and Florida has 6% base (7–7.5% combined). CA has high vehicle registration fees tied to vehicle value (~0.65%) while Texas registration is mostly flat ($50–$80 per year) and Florida typically ranges $45–$85 depending on vehicle weight. CA has the highest capital gains taxed as ordinary income up to 13.3%, while TX and FL are 0%. CA has a relatively high corporate tax rate of 8.84% compared with TX franchise tax (0.375–0.75% of revenue depending on business type) and Florida’s corporate income tax of 5.5%. This is a lie rivaling the lies told about the Palisades fire. Jeremy Padawer Pacificpalisades.com @spencerpratt @415FirePhoto @Hotshot_Movie

Software never was a just product; it was always a solution. Beyond the functionality, you’d buy 1) insurance that someone would keep thinking and iterating though the problem for years 2) a team to install the thing for you (in most cases) 3) someone to call if the thing didn’t work # 1 may evolve in the agentic world but # 2 and # 3 are not going anywhere so the need for specialized vendors wil remain

It's hard to put into words just how extreme the heatwave coming to California and the Western US is going to be. This truly ranks among the most extraordinary heatwaves the United States has ever seen. One perfect example: Palm Springs is forecast to hit 111°F next Friday. That would smash the US record high for the month of March by 3 degrees. It would also be 7 degrees warmer than any other March day Palm Springs has ever seen. Head a little farther south into Coachella Valley, and the town of Thermal is forecast to reach 113°F, which would tie the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in the US in April. And this would happen on March 20th. Thermal's hottest March day on record is 103°F. Breaking a monthly record by 10 degrees is virtually unheard of. I could go on and on with statistics about how absurd this event is, but this heatwave is the word "unprecedented" at its most literal.
