Interests in mapping & GIS, technology, current affairs, and the occasional bit of nonsense. Don't come round here much these days.

I usually cycle in London but with rain this morning I took the Tube. I love maps but totally flummoxed by this new Tube map. Any idea how it works @Mapwrangler ?

The incredible Eas Criarachain tumbling off the high cliffs of southern Isle of Mull. I filmed this only a week into my journey. This seems an age ago! I hope you enjoy a happy day today. If today is difficult for you, my warmest thoughts to you.

@undertheraedar It looks as if lidar only picks up the yellow vehicles. It would explain why the rest of the traffic isn't showing up!

even though I'd recognise a car, van or lorry in real life it's always nice to see them in these remotely sensed datasets and I think that's a 1992 yellow Ford Fiesta

Digital archaeology: looking at the new lidar data for Scotland and I *think* I've discovered three bridge-like structures crossing the Firth of Forth - they look to be a combination of 19th century cantilevered might and some later suspension and cable-stayed pragmatism

@volcan01010 @hunt3ri You could look at Pingdom for a commercial uptime checking and alerting service - it's now a Solarwinds product.

A fabulous day doing the Five Sisters of Kintail ridge. Ridge a bit scrambly scary in a couple of places. Cloud inversion to begin with. 1385 m of ascent = 312+ floors. Three Munros: Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe Sgurr na Carnach Sgurr Fhuaran Happily jiggered enjoying Skye Gold.

@edparsons There seems to be no requirement for caffeine intake in this definition either. Which is disappointing.

If you really don't understand what "Stay Alert" means in the context of slowly removing social distancing measures - maybe you should just stay at home ?

My achievement of the week: I have finally got vector tiles set up serving directly from AWS S3. No server required at all. It's...quite complicated. You need S3, Route53, CloudFront and ACM (certificate management). This tutorial is ace: github.com/addresscloud/s…

Over 1,000 fights were cancelled by the #drones at Gatwick. That's more than by the #ashcloud from the 2011 eruption of Iceland's Grímsvötn volcano (~900). The (smaller) Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010 caused 95,000 cancellations. all-geo.org/volcan01010/20…
