Metastasis kills most cancer patients and grows from invisible seeds. How do these seeds escape from attack by immune cells? These seeds harness stress hormones!🤯 ⁦thanks to ⁦@nyscf⁩ ⁦@parkerici⁩ for their support. Today at ⁦@Naturenature.com/articles/s4158…

Excited to be awarded a Cancer Grand Challenge grant as part of team REWIRE-CAN to develop new approaches to combat cancer #plasticity. Our goal: to see all #colorectalcancer patients become colorectal cancer survivors. Thank you @cancergrand @CR_UK @theNCI @BowelbabeF Yosemite!

🎉 Congratulations to MSK physician-scientist @KarunaMDPhD and colleagues, who are part of an international team awarded a @CancerGrand grant — a prestigious global award providing up to $25M over five years to tackle some of the toughest challenges in #cancerresearch. The team will explore new ways to “rewire” cancer cells and prevent treatment resistance in #colorectalcancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Learn more: bit.ly/4d1GX4p

I was already happy to have my student Haochen Zhangs’ work published in the February issue of @NatureGenet but my original painting made the cover as well! My second cover in 12 months! @CpcrMsk @MSKCancerCenter

A second manuscript in CMGH 🎉🥳 and a wonderful collaboration with Farzad Esni where we combined our computational analysis of injured acinar cells and metaplasia with his extensive, elegant in vivo lineage tracing models to show that STMN1+ acinar cells are primed for proliferation and do not undergo metaplasia in response to injury or oncogenic KRAS mutation. What this means: - A surprising proliferative capacity in 'post-mitotic' acinar cells with important implications for tissue regeneration - A possible acinar 'cell type' or 'polarized state' - A distinct role for metaplasia separate from acinar replacement - our data suggests that metaplastic populations (like tuft cells!) mitigate inflammation - Acinar to ductal metaplasia and regeneration are concurrent mechanisms These data highlight that we have so much more to learn about how the pancreas mitigates injury, heals, and regenerates, but, with the tools at hand, it is possible to understand the pancreas with the ultimate goal of translating this knowledge to better treat patients with pancreatitis. cmghjournal.org/article/S2352-…

New preprint on technologies to scale up CRISPR screens. We use them to map 665,856 pairwise genetic perturbations and outline a path to comprehensive interaction mapping in human cells. We also introduce an approach for cloning lentiviral libraries with billions of elements.
