The strength of the Maratha state in the 1790s as observed by William Henry Tone who served in the Maratha army… After the assassination of Narayanrao Peshwa (1773) it was Nana Phadnis who, as Regent of the 40-day-old Peshwa Sawai Madhavrao (1774-1795) strove to preserve the Empire and the primacy of the Peshwa as in the time of Madhavrao I (1761-1772)..however, by the 1790s, there were four arms of the Maratha state: Mahadji Scindia, Tukoji Holkar, Parashuram bhau Patwardhan & Hari pant Phadke (with the Peshwa/Nana)and the Bhonsles of Nagpur. In 1794 Mahadji and Haripant died, in 1795 Sawai Madhavrao, in 1796 Tukoji Holkar , in 1799 Parshuram bhau Patwardhan and in 1800 Nana Phadnis. The chaos set in from October 1795. The fruit was then ripe for the picking.

The deplorable situation in Delhi in saka 1706 (1784CE)…A letter to Nana Phadnis says, ‘Hindustan is devoid of Kshatriyas!... The Sikhs are there but are divided. .. of the Wazir; his kingdom depends on the English, of the Patshah.. he is a servant at a salary of a lakh and thirty thousand rupees a month, once he gets this, he doesnt need even one bigha land. Thus is the state of Hindustan. The burden of managing entire Hindustan falls on Patil baba alone’.

In the Ahadnama signed between the Marathas and the Mughal ruler Ahmed Shah in 1750-51, the Mughals handed over many subahs and districts as Subedari to the Marathas and allowed them to take chauth from these provinces. A sum of thirty lakh rupees was paid to the Maratha chiefs Holkar and Scindia who signed the ahadnama on behalf of Balaji Bajirao Peshwa. Agra (Akbarabad) nd Ajmer were two of these provinces awarded (besides others like Lahore and Thatta and so on). Extracts from the ahadnama translated into Marathi and its original version in devanagari script was published by VK Rajwade in his 'Marathyanchya Itihasachi Sadhane, Volume I, letter 1 are as under. A map of Ajmer subah with all the places therein that were included in the award to the Marathas is also given under. Please have a look. @EduMinOfIndia @ncert

Part I of my recent talk on the third battle of #Panipat in Marathi. No exaggeration, no hagiography, just as it happened. पानिपतचे तिसरे युध्द! अलीकडे दिलेल्या व्याख्यानाचा पहिला भाग! अतिशयोक्ती रहित, जसे घडले तसे… #SolsticeAtPanipat youtu.be/KuPw4ie2JB4

In the days after the third battle of #Panipat on 14 January 1761, Ahmed Shah Abdali wrote a letter to Raja Madho Sinh of Jaipur. An excerpt relating to the battle itself: (Trans. Sir Jadunath Sarkar from the Persian) The intensity of the battle and the bravery of the two combatants is best described in the words of the author himself. They gave their all.

Let’s talk in this short 🧵 of 📸 about this peculiar terracotta lekanis (dish) of marine motifs. Displayed at the MET, this terracotta lekanis (dish) from Apulia, in modern southern Italy, was made in c. 340–330 BC when the region was part of Magna Graecia (Megale Hellas).

The #IndianNavy proudly pays tribute to Rajendra Chola I — the legendary emperor whose visionary maritime expedition to Southeast Asia a thousand years ago marked a golden chapter in #India’s maritime history. The commencement of the majestic Gangaikonda Cholapuram and the release of a commemorative coin in his honour serve as a reminder of our rich #maritimeheritage. The Chola Navy exemplified unparalleled strategic brilliance, maritime prowess, and cultural influence, leaving an indelible mark on Indian history. Today, the #IndianNavy carries forward that legacy — safeguarding national interests, fostering regional cooperation, #MAHASAGAR #SAGAR and ensuring peace and stability across the #IndianOceanRegion. We salute the timeless spirit of India’s seafarers — from the maritime pioneers of Chola era to the modern day mariners of today. #MaritimeHeritage #NavyForNation #SAGARMALA Sagarmala 2.0 #MaritimeIndiaVision2030

Tomorrow, 27th July will witness a very special programme to mark a thousand years of the maritime expedition of the great Rajendra Chola I to South East Asia and the commencement of the construction of the iconic Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple, a shining example of Chola architecture. It is our privilege that a commemorative coin honouring Rajendra Chola I is being released, also celebrating the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival.

I'm an Indian. I love my country, and I love to travel. But lately, I've started feeling a sense of dread and second-hand embarrassment when I see a large group of my countrymen at a tourist spot. And I'm sick of it. This isn't about culture. Spreading out a meal on an airport floor and eating it with your group isn't a proud display of 'simplicity'; it's a lack of civic sense in a shared public space. Or hijacking the observation deck on the Burj Khalifa for a staged Garba reel isn't cultural pride. It's an obnoxious, self-centered spectacle that ruins the moment for hundreds of others who paid to see a view, not your desperate bid for viral fame. This "we are like this only" attitude is the most pathetic excuse for bad manners. It's a toxic cocktail of newfound money, entitlement, and a desperate hunger for social media validation. You are not showcasing Indian culture. You are disrespecting local norms, invading people's privacy, and turning beautiful destinations into garbage dumps. You are ruining tourism, not just for the locals, but for the rest of us Indians who travel with respect. Your actions are getting us a reputation, and it's shameful. Please, for the sake of our country's image, leave your entitlement at home. Be a guest, not a menace. #TravelRant #IndianTourists #TravelEtiquette

#मराठी #शिक्षण gr.maharashtra.gov.in/Site/Upload/Go

Yesterday, my account was hacked for a while and strangely, my most viral tweet was deleted. So here it is, updated for 2025 for science and health-illiterates. To summarize: 1. One whole egg with yolk a day does not increase blood cholesterol 2. Green tea does not help you lose weight 3. Jaggery, honey or sugarcane are not healthier than white sugar 4. There is no "healthy alcohol" 5. Ashwagandha does not reduce stress or help you sleep 6. Shilajit is a resinous piece of rock that does not benefit male sexual health 7. Turmeric in milk does not get beneficially absorbed in body and is lost in stool 8. You can consume fruits anytime during day or night 9. Sugarless black coffee at least 3 cups is good for fatty liver disease 10. Apple cider vinegar is good for only trapping fruit flies 11. Eight glasses of water a day is a myth 12. Pure whey protein supplementation to target recommended higher protein intake is safe for liver and kidneys 13. Magnesium supplements don't help you sleep 14. Anti-ageing is a myth 15. Herbalife products are the most common cause of liver injuries globally in the context of herbal and dietary supplements induced liver damage 16. Just because you lost weight by whatever means does not make you a "health coach." 17. Consumption of dairy along with fruits is perfectly fine 18. Yoga does not help you lose weight 19. Multivitamin a day does not improve health or prevent diseases in general. It can however, increase the risk of multiple cancers 20. Biotin does not help in hair growth or increase length of hair 21. Here are some liver supplements that you are wasting time and money on - Milk thistle, TUDCA and S-adenosyl methionine (SAMe) 22. The liver detoxes you, you don't detox the liver 23. Do not insult the kidneys by drinking yours or others urine, thinking urine therapy is going to help you live longer 24. Your favourite celebrity is always wrong about healthcare. Do not take medical advice from a pretty looking heroine or macho looking hero. 25. Virat Kohli and Cristiano Ronaldo do not drink Herbalife shakes. They just pose with it, for money 26. BluePrint is Bryan Johnson's online supplements scam 27. Covid vaccines ended the pandemic 28. Ayurveda is a pseudoscience. So is Homeopathy, Siddha, Unani, Naturopathy, Reiki, and Acupuncture. 29. Homeopathy is mostly alcohol, sometimes sugar. Other times cockroach parts. 30. You personal experience is not scientific evidence.
