Our new paper in Scientific Reports: rdcu.be/fck7Z 👉Deep sleep slow wave-spindle coupling is the best predictor of plasma amyloid-β in older adults - better than age or cognition. 👉 Targeting slow waves acoustically can affect coupling and Aβ dynamics #dementia

🔍 Key Findings: Delayed Effect: CI patients need more time for PLAS benefits. Amyloid Beta Link: Better PLAS = better Amyloid response. Congrats to Céline Zeller for this first-author work! 2/2

Interesting, but I'm skeptical: has everyone else up to this point — with a diverse array of methods and model organisms — really gotten it completely backwards?

Over the past decade, the leading explanation for why we #sleep has been that it provides the #brain with an opportunity to flush out toxins. However, a new study led by scientists at Imperial College London indicates that this may not be true. ow.ly/97cc50REyTi

Engaged in a vibrant academic debate! Steinkrauss & Slotnick challenge the role of the hippocampus in implicit memory, including my dissertation work. I've responded, arguing their critique is special pleading. 👇Read both and form your opinion! #Neuroscience #AcademicDebate

@th_schreiner @SfNJournals Hi Thomas, thanks! This was unexpected for us, too. You could argue that the depol phase of SOs increases the probability for spindles to occur, but they can also occur spontaneously, and CFC often implies feedback mechanisms which might be the driving factor with this reversal

@MarcZuest @SfNJournals Hey Marc, very cool study! Just one question: it has been suggested that the depolarizing phase of SOs initiates the generation of sleep spindles in the thalamus. How would you interpret your finding that in the elderly sleep spindles seem to drive SOs in this context? Thanks!
