In leadership, we often give away pieces of ourselves, our evenings, our weekends, our mental energy, until we’re running on empty. It’s easy to blame the role, but the truth is: boundaries are what make the role sustainable. Setting limits isn’t about doing less for your team or students; it’s about protecting the clarity, focus, and energy they deserve from you. Boundaries look like downtime. They look like pausing. They look like letting things wait. They look like being okay with unfinished. So before you think an exit is the only solution, maybe boundaries are. It could be the difference between surviving in leadership and thriving in it.
