@giulio_mattioli The quote is missing its central piece. What Merz actually said is quite a bit worse, because he claims that Germany doesn't have the right to criticize its partners for breaking international law, as long as "we" lack the military means to break it ourselves:

Left: what the German constitution says about international law. Right: what the German chancellor says about international law. One of them is not compatible with the other.

A German PM blaming the EU for too many "forms and permits" it's as if the Italian PM blamed the EU for too much corruption, or the British PM blamed the EU for too many privatisations.

So quite expectedly, Charlie Kirk’s assassination becomes Trump’s Reichstag arson. Proclaiming the antifa a “major terrorist organisation”, Trump follows Putin’s example. In 2023, Russia designated “LGBT movement” an extremist organisation. None of these are real organisations, they are subcultures or lifestyles. The point is creating a tool for much broader political repression against anyone to the left of the extreme far right. Mamdani, Sanders, Biden, Clinton, even Kasparov and Applebaum, can be branded “antifa” in today’s America. Because no one cares about the meaning of words.
