Last night, women of Somaliland gathered to discuss their role in advancing statehood and international recognition, while also celebrating the recent recognition by the Government of Israel. The event was organized by @SiraadInitiative.

❌We call for ZERO tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Somaliland. No Sunna. No medicalization. No exceptions. All forms of #FGM are harmful and constitute a serious violation on the human rights, health, dignity, and bodily integrity of girls and women. There is no religious, cultural, or medical justification for this practice. We call on the Parliament of Somaliland to adopt and enforce comprehensive legislation that criminalizes all forms of FGM, ensuresaccountability, and provides survivor-centered support. Minutes ago, Israel recognized Somaliland as an independent state. A historic decision that reflects strategic clarity at a moment when hesitation carries a price. Just two weeks ago, I wrote in @IsraelHayomEng / @IsraelHayomHeb why this moment was approaching and why it could no longer be postponed: “Between an Iranian proxy in Yemen and a Turkish proxy in Somalia, Somaliland is the last intact coastline on this corridor not pulled into someone else’s strategic design". Today, that analysis became policy. As I wrote then, and as this decision now confirms: "Recognizing Somaliland is not theory but timing and strategic clarity".
