On this #IWD2023, it gives me great pleasure to confront the #pinkwashing with #science by inviting you to the premiere of @MariekeJBos's landmark film "Sidelined in Science" at the #MFA in #Chicago on March 16.

Fascinating new paper on the economics of mental health by @MariekeJBos, Andreas Hertzberg, and @andreslib: when Swedish men get a diagnosis of a mental illness at age 18, this leads to increased unemployment, illness, and death later in life. drive.google.com/file/d/1KLxcvH…

FINDING: Upon receiving large cash payments, average productivity among poor workers increases while mistakes decline, which suggests that alleviating financial concerns can make workers more attentive and productive.

@BierVicki @jhaushofer @andreslib @BierVicki Thank you, yes the mechanism behind our findings is definitely were we still need to do some heavy lifting. Those you mention are some we attempt to look deeper into. Investigation if you mitigate the effect if you grow up in a household with mental illness.
English

@jhaushofer @MariekeJBos @andreslib Fascinating. I wonder if this is due to stigma, or to negative attributions of self efficacy resulting in lack of confidence and positive effort
English

@cetier1 @jhaushofer @andreslib Yes, unfortunately our identification strategy only allows us to study the male population.

@nielsrosenquist @royperlis @jorsmo Thanks Niels, come to the VMESS seminar maybe we can clarify! This Tuesday 23 Feb 9am EST see details in @C__Kronenberg feed (the organizer of the seminar)
English

@ashdgandhi Important clarification It is the marginal patient we study: i.e. individuals that are on the border of a diagnosis. There can be (most likely are) simultaneously seriously mentally ill individuals that are under diagnosed in society.
English

Wow! This is definitely contrary to what I would have guessed.
