According to the United Nations, women and girls spend around 250 million hours each day collecting water in countries with limited services; a burden that limits education, opportunities, and equality. This is why the World Water Day 2026 theme – “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows” highlights the link between water access and gender equality. To contribute to this conversation, the Lekan Bakare Foundation (LBF) is hosting a virtual webinar: “From Policy to Practice: Driving Sustainable and Inclusive Water Solutions.” Date: 24 March 2026 Time: 4:00 PM (WAT) | 10:00 AM (EST) Platform: Virtual (Zoom) Register here: bit.ly/LBFWorldWaterD… #WorldWaterDay2026 #WaterAndGender #WhereWaterFlowsEqualityGrows #sdg6 #lekanbakarefoundation

Good Morning Jamaica, always remember: At the Primary level: -A third of students cannot read after 6 years of primary school - 56% cannot write -57% could not identify information in a simple sentence At the secondary level: - Only 28% of students passed 5 or more subjects including both English and Math - 70% of the 18-year-old cohort left secondary school in 2018 without a certificate Source: The Jamaica Education Transformation Commission Report, 2021 — also known as the Patterson Report ( Professor Orlando Patterson) . I served as a Commissioner. As far as I know, things are not much worse...or much better. Until we can fix this at scale, nothing else matters. Not AI, not productivity...nothing. Our people can't do much if they can't read or write. Have a great rest of day.

Twenty-two years ago, Gordon “Butch” Stewart, his big heart breaking, handed back control of Air Jamaica to the Government after 10 years, gave it US$20 million to fund the transition, and washed his hands of the one project that had defied the considerable genius of this marketing superstar. It was a terrible blow to Stewart, after giving it his all and seeing the ‘Love Bird’ soar to new heights before being downed by economic turbulence and the disappointments by the Administration of the day which had minority ownership. jamaicaobserver.com/2026/01/18/but…

This is how low the bar has fallen for political leadership in Africa. After decades of flamboyant and performative presidencies, where heads of state turn governance into a travelling spectacle, you see dumb commentaries likes that confuse propaganda with with governance. Presidents parading at concerts, football matches, and public ceremonies, moving with entire entourages, family members, and bloated cabinets, burning public funds to remain permanently in people’s faces, while urgent matters of state remain unattended. Measuring the worth of a president by whether he sits in a stadium during a football match is a sign of political degradation.

Imagine your country Senegal wins the biggest sport tournament in the world, but the president of the country is not in the stadium to celebrate this historic moment? You're a useless president @PR_Diomaye

NCB Jamaica has now confirmed that CEO Bruce Bowen will be leaving on February 28. Reports of his impending departure began circulating last week. Sheree Martin will serve as interim CEO. It's understood that there will be further management and board changes. The development comes one week before the January 26 deadline for companies connected to Michael Lee-Chin, the chairman of the NCB Financial Group, to pay bondholders US$94 million in principal and interest.

4/8 What does “taking full advantage” actually mean for us? First: stronger voice in how high-seas resources are used and protected. We can push for rules that protect our fisheries and coastal ecosystems from distant-water impacts.

1/8 Big news for Jamaica: The UN High Seas Treaty (BBNJ) officially entered into force on Jan 17, 2026. Govt says we’re going all-in to maximize it. As an economist watching our blue economy closely, this could be a real game-changer. Here's the breakdown.
