Young greens who moved to urban centres due to managed decline in their home regions — of which I am one — need to start having more conversations with parents and grandparents.

@JayneShannon @PhilipProudfoot Exactly. The Greens who do well where I live are incredibly active & visible, have been for years, most people in their wards know they do 'stuff' to help.

There is a reason no one is voting green in these places

Great thread, and this is so true. At the North Warks derby, I didn't even really have time even think about the match itself. And then at the end when fans were disappointed with the game, I was just happy that the whole day ran as smoothly as it could have!

@KieranMaguire There will be plenty of players who are paid/employed by club sponsors to get around it and then on peanuts for the club.

Interesting comments from Ebbsfleet United on the Club website suggesting that some clubs in National League are paying players off book to save PAYE/NI. Certainly plenty of anecdotal evidence that this is an issue. Website also says that the Club adhered to a zero-tolerance policy on lowering standards and compliance in regards to financial matters and payroll. Good to see standards are being set. Also worth noting that in 2024/25 all but one Clubs in the National League have published their accounts for the season. One club has used a loophole to delay publishing their accounts for three months. That club is...Ebbsfleet United!
