Nationalist propaganda—but let’s give even a scintilla of merit to this claim regarding the “shipyard.” Harland & Wolff played a vital role, repairing over twenty thousand ships, building something like five or six aircraft carriers and over a hundred warships, plus the landing craft that were vital on D-Day. If Unionists were “hiding” in the shipyard (they weren’t, of course), then thank God—because without the Royal Navy, Britain stood a good chance of losing the war to Germany. So overall, your argument is just nationalist propaganda designed to besmirch the brave Northern Irish people who fought in the war, the great people of Belfast who played a pivotal role in the shipyard, and—last but not least—those who refused to stay neutral like your cowardly country, which thought it best that Belfast should take the brunt of Nazi aggression. There was no cowardice shown by Britain. Britain stood up to Adolf Hitler at a time when the fate of European civilisation was on the line, led the fight back, and ultimately played a key role in the Allied victory. Irish nationalism spent the war trying to figure out how it could get Nazi Germany to land in Ireland and how it could collaborate with Nazi Germany. Britain spent the war fighting them—and that’s why, eighty years on, you lot are still upset when your neutrality gets brought up. Because deep down, you know it’s shameful and, frankly, a bit embarrassing. The world remembers Britain’s contribution in fighting Nazi Germany. The same thing can’t be said for the Republic.

@HoratioNelson0 Unionism cant accept that the only WW2 VC won in "NI" , was a RC Irish Nationalist from the falls Rd. ( 8 were won in the RoI) Not one Loyalist/Unionist, who were hiding in H&W, achieved that.TBH its no Surprise.

The attack by the Ukrainians on Putin's state residence confirms that Zelensky is in office in Kiev but not in power. He is a puppet whose strings are being pulled by Neo-Nazi forces at home and Western ideologues abroad. The searching question is the extent to which this attack involved the strategic planning of French, German and British military minds. Europe, it is clear, seeks at this juncture escalation at all cost -- up to and including the sabotage of Trump's peace efforts.

Upset about HMY Britannia & HMS Ark Royal while expecting @RoyalNavy & @RoyalAirForce to provide air and maritime security - typical 🇮🇪 hypocrisy. Seems ‘Irish Exceptionalism’ hasn’t moved on much in three decades….@dfatirl would/will be pleased… @uuponline @BBCNewsNI

President Trump drops the hammer on Zelensky!! “IT’S TIME, he needs to hold a free election immediately and stop clinging to power without a vote. The war is the excuse, but the Ukrainian people deserve their voice NOW.” On a scale of 1-10 how much do you support Trump on this ?

No Irish person alive has any experience whatsoever of what it’s like to face genocide. But many know what’s it like to have their freedoms fought for and defended by their British neighbours during the Second World War.
The Key@TheKeyPa

“Irish people know what it’s like to face genocide and oppression. We have fought for our freedom for hundreds of years, and continue to have to fight to end the partition of our country and help people in our society who are facing poverty and deprivation.”-@chrisandrews64

No surprise that Southern Ireland features prominently on the EU’s roll of honour, or that when the Brits voted to leave, the EU weaponised article 50 against them, relying on traditional Southern Irish Anglophobia and the Hibernian spirit of the Belfast Agreement for ammunition.

Ewan MacKenna with a racist, antisemitic, genocidal tweet. Some criminals ran someone over, were ARRESTED by Israel, and he immediately says that the country of 9 million Israelis should cease to exist. If that is not genocidal racism I do not know what is.

Cross community safeguards were sacred…. Only for so long as they served nationalist’s purposes. It was never about ‘equality’- that was just a staging post for the ultimate objective of ‘supremacy’.

People Before Profit and their little friends in Sinn Fein, the SDLP, and Green Party demanded an urgent meeting to discuss a totally stupid topic and then proceeded to say the meeting was arranged “too quickly.” You couldn’t make it up.
Cllr Sarah Bunting@sbunting_

Shockingly we were back in the chamber tonight, not debating something urgent for the people of Belfast, but demanding that the UK Government capitulate to the demands of those on remand for serious criminal offences. The proposers demanded an urgent meeting, then complained it was called too quickly. That tells you everything. This was never an emergency. Just political theatre.

Utter nonsense; the fundamental issue is NI remains EU territory for a border in the Irish Sea. That is the root of the evil. Until that is remedied, there will be no ‘solution’, nor should there be political stability. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

If it were British state policy, the Republican movement's leadership would have been wiped out. The problem for Loyalism was the complete lack of joined-up thinking with the security apparatus. I'm sure your fiction will make for a good laugh, though.
Seán MacBrádaigh@SMacB

Operation Denton claims there is “no evidence of collusion” in the Dublin–Monaghan bombings. That claim does not survive contact with the historical record. Collusion was not an aberration. It was British state policy. Read more on the Long View tomorrow morning.
