Very interesting report on the effects of continuing working life on women affected by increased increases in the state pension age. Better to be at work than dressing up as a suffragette and campaigning with the only result so far to make money for PR consultants and lawyers!

NEW: On average, working helps women in their 60s maintain cognitive function and delay the onset of physical disability. Not all types of work are beneficial, however. James Banks, @JCribbEcon, Carl Emmerson and @David_Sturrock summarise their new research:

@edithmayhall I once played the Megarian at #KCL trying a regional accent to highlight the Dorian Greek. I doubt anyone noticed. @KenZeroHarm might remember

@edithmayhall @katrinajkelly The one on the left, please, and I agree with those who have commented on the skin tones and the inverted commas around Iliad

Pleae help me choose from these two covers for my eco-Iliad book. I am inclined to go for the one with Achilles fighting the river with the proviso that the peachy skins are replaced with dark brown or black. Thanks once again to @katrinajkelly for the title.

@edithmayhall The artist does not seem to have had any doubt about the ambiguity. Still, it’s a harsh punishment even in Athena’s book. The supposed lover is making a run for it without any visibly heroic attempt to protect Ismene, but is that Tydeus’s horse which he seems to be commandeering?

@BarbaraRich_law @hjbrander @lincolnsinn That is such sad news. I send my condolences too. Catherine was also a very conscientious co-trustee of the Inn’s staff pension scheme and was much loved by everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

@hjbrander @lincolnsinn Echoing Helen, I am truly sorry to read this. It’s hard to imagine the library without Catherine’s presence. Sincere condolences to her family, friends and colleagues

@hjbrander @MarkHerbert8 @kirby_pj I went to Italy on family holidays several times as a child, and always thought it was the most to-be-dreamed of destination. And have returned several times as an adult, but still only visited a fraction of the places I would like to

@BarbaraRich_law @hjbrander Also staying close to my best friend from Bar school. Dear reader, she married me. And we are heading towards Italy as well
English

@hjbrander He’s also obviously a very talented cook and photographer. My closest friend from Bar school went to live and work in Sydney in 2004 but we have remained close and enjoyed a lot of time together in the UK and elsewhere since then

@JohnRalfe1 @HoskingTheTimes Probably good news for some lawyers and actuaries. Dealing with surpluses was big business at least from the mid 1980s

thetimes.co.uk/article/pensio… 380 comments on this piece by @HoskingTheTimes - pretty much all of them (or at least as far as I managed to get...) think it's a dreadful ides. Anyone think it's a good idea...?

I’m pleased to be shortlisted as Court of Protection junior of the year in the Legal 500 Bar Awards 2023, and grateful to those who recommended me, especially as I feel I’ve reached the career stage of vying for a legal awards equivalent of the mums’ and dads’ egg and spoon race

@hjbrander I hear the sound of a book review, plus several possible articles here for Private Client Business

@BarbaraRich_law @LottieJohn1 @MrSkinnerTweet @Shiv_who_burns @gifford_head My earlier reply about joking was meant as an attachment to this one about David Hayton. I evidently need to be educated about how to use Twitter
English

@BarbaraRich_law @LottieJohn1 @MrSkinnerTweet @Shiv_who_burns @gifford_head I have a memory-trace that David Hatton once claimed that all important jurisdiction has either a rule for fixed shares or a system for invoking a judicial discretion, with the single exception of North Dakota

Is a will made by a terminally ill woman the day before marriage valid or did she die intestate leaving her fortune to her husband? It is arguable that beneficiaries of the will have rectification claim to prove will was made in contemplation of marriage

@BarbaraRich_law @LottieJohn1 @MrSkinnerTweet @Shiv_who_burns @gifford_head He was probably joking, but anyway it is interesting that Mexico is an exception too
English

@BarbaraRich_law @LottieJohn1 @MrSkinnerTweet @Shiv_who_burns @gifford_head I am more in favour of the English solution than fixed shares, even though the outcome of potential 1975 Act litigation is often unpredictable
