Robert Earl Keen had our favorite live moment of 2025 when he strode out at BFOK Waco to treat the assembled masses to an electric rendition of Charlie Robison’s “My Hometown” backed by Ragweed. That’s a real sentence. It happened. youtu.be/XZPi9t_95Dk?si…

@mvp30_curry @Colton418 What is the minimum number of wins an opponent must have when a loss no longer keeps you out of the playoffs?

@SuaKCravens @FixnBones @RonnieMoor83974 So wins don’t matter, just losses? If # of Ls is the only thing that matter then why play any tough non conf games? Since win did all of college football play similar schedules? Are you saying all 2 loss teams are better than all 3 loss teams regardless of who they played?

@RGIII @Gretegiii @OuttaPocketRG3 Do you know that Florida actually has 4 wins, easily beat the team that beat Bama, was leading Georgia late in the 4th quarter and is 35th/36th in the Sagarin and ESPN FPI? No team has 3 better wins than Texas. And not all schedules are equal. How many played 5 top 14 teams?

Texas isn’t being punished by the CFP because they played Ohio State out of conference. Texas is being judged correctly because they LOST to Ohio State, Georgia by 4 scores and a 3 win Florida team. Conference logos on your jersey shouldn’t determine favoritism in the Power 4.

@dawgwithnoname @Chase_Swartz3 By your reasoning how bad is UGa’s loss to Bama? Bama lost to FSU who lost to that same UF team. No one has 3 better wins than Texas. It’s ok to say you care more about losses than wins. It’s just not good for the sport bc we will lose good nonconf games

@MarkHinATX @Chase_Swartz3 They should. I agree. But I don’t think those 3 great wins place them above others with less bad losses and less losses overall. And Sagarin or not, South Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee are all lesser teams than Texas and they won.

According to the public and committee, BYU does not deserve to be in due to a 22 point loss to Tech. Their only loss of the season mind you. But Texas can lose by 25 points to UGA and to an awful Florida team and we are supposed to forgive that?

@dawgwithnoname @Chase_Swartz3 It’s not about who you like or who you don’t like. It’s about the right thing for the sport. Florida is 35th and 36th in Sagarin & ESPN FPI. Not a horrible loss. The same UF team that was beating UGa in 4th qtr. But quality wins should matter as much if not more as a poor showing

@MarkHinATX @Chase_Swartz3 It’s a horrible loss. It wasn’t near as close as that one score. Texas scored the last touchdown with 3 minutes left to bring them within 8. It was 19-7 at half. It’s a horrible loss. But I do agree. If we beat Bama, they should NOT be in. Screw them too.

@dawgwithnoname @Chase_Swartz3 A one score loss in the Swamp may not be good but tough to call it horrible. Based on that reasoning if we are only looking at losses & not strongly considering wins then Bama shouldn’t get in over any 2 loss team if they lose the conf title game bc of their FSU loss

@MarkHinATX @Chase_Swartz3 I think they should be equally important. A&M is a great win. Oklahoma is a good win. Vanderbilt is a good win. Florida is a HORRIBLE loss. And it’s the 3rd loss. There are teams with 2 losses that just deserve it more. The games have to matter. Wins AND losses.

@dawgwithnoname @Chase_Swartz3 I’m not saying Texas will get in. But I think the committee has to consider really tough non-conference games differently or else there is no reason to schedule them. If good wins aren’t as important as losses then something is wrong

@MarkHinATX @Chase_Swartz3 It was a one score in the 4th for sure but the only score they had like that was off a turnover. After the initial field goal drive, Texas didn’t really threaten again. And I’m just saying, on paper a bad loss and a 25 point loss to make loss 2 AND 3 is what does it.

@dawgwithnoname @Chase_Swartz3 Agree that it is a combination. But so many are saying it’s because they have 3 losses when they are also 3-0 against possible at large teams. Game vs UGa was 1 score in 4th quarter until onside recovery & momentum changed. UF loss was not good but teams often have a bad loss

@MarkHinATX @Chase_Swartz3 No. It’s not. The wins are fine. But it’s a combination. You just can’t ignore the specific losses. Honestly, the out of conference loss is their least egregious. It’s 25 points to us and losing to the worst UF team in almost 40 years.

@dawgwithnoname @Chase_Swartz3 So the only thing that should matter is losses? That will make non-conference scheduling very different going forward. Texas was 3-0 against other teams not playing in a conference championship and being considered for an at large spot

@Chase_Swartz3 No. I don’t forgive it. You lose 3 games? That should be it. Texas didn’t schedule poorly. They played poorly against us and Florida, despite what they are trying to claim.

@TTRedRaider1983 @slmandel More than wins? Texas has proven they can compete (and beat) other teams being considered for at large spots. Up to the committee to decide how to weigh those variables. But no one can say Texas can’t (or hasn’t) beaten multiple other teams being considered for at large spots

Texas is going to be the most interesting test of the selection committee era. The commissioners who founded it 12 years ago were hoping they’d reward big wins and SOS more than polls. But so far they’ve mostly still ordered the teams by # of losses and who you lost to.

Texas people blaming the fact that they scheduled Ohio State rather than the fact that they lost to a team that’s 3-8 and has two SEC wins is extremely predictable, but don’t fall for it
