Players with Dorofeyev's archetype in the model (D-1 equivalency in the 20s and DY equivalency in the 40s) make the NHL about 89% of the time and often turn into a very productive players. Getting this type of player in the 3rd round probably shouldn't be possible.

Remarkable Dorofeyev is just 25Y old. 35 goals last year for Vegas, 37 this year with 6 already in the playoffs. And he’s an RFA this summer. 💰

@JFreshHockey And there’s just no viable explanation that Kyrou is among the top 1% of defensive players in the league. He’s been vastly better but there are valid reasons why Monty plays him 3rd line minutes and not 1st.

@JFreshHockey Wow. This is a great example of the analytics and the eye test being far far apart. And I’m an analytics believer btw. Does your model account for usage? Quality of competition? He has 2 non-empty net goals in the past 20 or so games. Don’t see how his Finishing can be that high.

I would imagine most hockey fans loved the Frozen Frenzy last night, not sure how they couldn't. But I did get some grumbling from some NHL team execs. Some not happy with start times and how it's tough to sell in their market, etc.

@Carolina_2463 Kuch absolutely destroyed the U18s a couple months before being drafted (21 pts in 7 games) so he wasn’t an unknown. It was more an old school Canadian bias from what I remember. The reports I recall reading on Kuch from his draft year was that he was a small, soft flopper 🙄

Seeing this kind of thing makes me think teams back in the day just either didn’t scout Russia, didn’t have any understanding of Russia, or put a draft hold on Russians. This kind of player now would never drop this far.
