@v8oholic My late 80s (possibly) CD sounds pretty good. Later remasters have been awful.

Duran Duran here we come! Ecstatic to be at Hyde Park again this summer to see the Wild Boys in action! It was such a magical evening when we last saw them there in 2022. 😍⭐️🎵❤️❤️❤️
To get in the mood, here are our clips from the last Hyde Park gig ➡️ youtu.be/awi_hQM3sBM?si…

When there were only four channels if I.e some obscure 1970’s horror or western was on late at night, next day at college/work chances were *loads* of people would have seen it. So you had this strange sub cultural literacy that has been utterly lost - people randomly quoting

People who actually experienced the 1990s: What is something you miss from that decade that just isn't the same today

@phil25369 @CansAndBansV12 Birdhouse, Loveshack, Myles Smith, Mumford & Sons,etc.
English

@CansAndBansV12 Absolutely dispise that song up there with birdhouse in your Fukin soul and anything by guns an roses
English

A breakthrough hit for Spin Doctors, “Two Princes” was released in 1993 and appears on Pocket Full of Kryptonite. Captured here at Glastonbury Festival in 1994, it became one of the most recognisable songs of the era.

@DavidJPIatt @TiceRichard We never lost our sovereignty. One of the many brexit lies.
English

@TiceRichard The British people voted to take back our sovereignty from the EU. Our elected representatives have chosen to defy us. These people are traitors to our nation and our people.
English

ABSURD
Starmer’s ludicrous suggestion to get closer to the EU, a failing economic bloc that has also a long track record of failing to invest in defence.
Let’s remember the EU became way too reliant on Russia for gas so their judgement is not to be trusted
We must use all our own energy treasure of oil and gas
We must invest in our own sovereign capabilities
This is why my British Sovereign Wealth Fund plan is so critical

@AposematicHate @jroebuck @anon_opin It depends on what you are buying. The meat, fruit and veg are better at M&S than Waitrose, etc. Fish not so much.
English

@jroebuck @anon_opin M&S used Tesco suppliers. It is basically just a tart in a fur coat with no knickers.
Waitrose outranks them as actually holds a royal warrant.
The factory that makes pizzas for M&S also makes them for Tesco and ALDI.

@909One Lennon called Paperback Writer the son of Day Tripper
English

I love juxtaposition in songs, sad lyrics balanced on a happy melody, downbeat words married to upbeat rhythm. One of my favourites is Paperback Writer. You ever thought about how boring the lyrics really are? It’s a drab letter where nothing actually happens. But the music is thrilling, amongst the most exciting the Beatles ever recorded. And that’s the trick again, isn’t it? Making the mundane feel momentous, and McCartney is a master of it.

@benonwine Instead of filming her why not get out and tell her she shouldn’t be doing that, the risks, etc.
English

@Albumism No. It’s fine but it has some filler. I place it 6th or 7th.

@WeirdBristol @bristoltoday Some of the accents were dodgy though. Few Bristolians in this. A great insight into 1960s Bristol as well as featuring Soundwell Swimming Baths (now Kingswood Leisure Centre).
English

@WeirdBristol My dad is one of the boys that jumps off the diving board in the pool scene! Never dived in his life, but they offered him money so he just went for it! He was 12 😂

@RayMartin79059 @oaksandlions The Carpenter’s Arms is still going strong. A lovely pub.
English

We used to live in Windsor on King's road next to the long walk - a 5 minute walk from town. used to go to the Market Cross House for a Saturday tea.
Right around the corner from the Market Cross House is the Carpenter's Arms on Market St. where the wife and I used to go for the best Mulligan Stew. Brings back so many cherished memories.
Eaton was just a stone's throw and Datchet was only a 10 minute drive.
This was the Market Cross House 35 years ago...

Built in 1592, this building is older than the United Kingdom itself.
When this house was built, Elizabeth I was still on the throne.
The Spanish Armada had only recently been defeated, and Shakespeare was in the middle of writing his plays.
Constructed using unseasoned “green” oak, the timber slowly twisted and settled as it dried, giving the structure its distinctive lean.
It has stood through civil war, empire, industrialisation, and world wars.
More than 430 years later, it remains.
Slightly crooked, but still standing.

@Larushka_iz Oh wow. John Hannah once told me the sad tale of how his pitch for it failed in the 90s ... didn't Johnny Depp try too? It requires a sort of smooth good humoured placidity. Not sure who has that ...
English

@TheStingisBack “You spit in this?”. I’ve been using that for years, even now. My teenage sons think it’s hilarious.
English

@TheStingisBack I love it. It’s one of my favourite teen movies. Kelly Le Brock was stunning in this and at the age of 13, it marked me in a good way. The cast are excellent, especially Bill Paxton. Fantastic thread.

@decramundo @Tom_D_B_ It was in interview he did back in 2000 with “Q Magazine”. I remember reading it.
English

@Tom_D_B_ To be fair, he admitted later he hadn't done that, but knew someone who claimed to have done it. Other than that I think he's being rightly called out for his virtue signalling outrage.
