I’ve gambled on the fringes of harm for years. Always working on ways to Be a Better Gambler! (2024 edit: WSOP Bracelet Winner; Still on the fringes!)

I've tracked my sleep for over two years, and alcohol will definitely impact it, although I think this is wildly overstated. If I drink a glass of wine with dinner (something I do once or twice a week) my overnight sleep improves. If I have two glasses (basically half a bottle) my heart rate and heart rate variability are visibly impacted and I tend to wake up more throughout the night. That said, I wake up feeling pretty much the same. If I drink more than that, but not enough to be hungover, my HR and HRV are terrible and it takes me a bit (and maybe a Tylenol) to get going in the morning, but I can still go about my day.

My unsolicited advice to Kalshi (for about a year) remains unchanged: stop talking. You don’t have to respond to every negative bit of news, especially when your responses routinely get flamed. This is apparently a very hard lesson to learn.

I was stunned by a report last week on the face of the anti-sports betting movement & Senator Blackburn's star witness to appear at this Wednesday's Senate hearing on sports betting integrity. 1/

Legalized sports betting destroys the lives of young men. It will turn out to be one of the most harmful public policy decisions ever. I saw a video of a young man with a massive following (his name is Alex Eubank) talking about how a casino offered him $80K/month for a brand deal. He explains that he turned it down because in order for the casino to make money, his audience has to lose money. And whatever they pay him, his audience will lose much more. He talks about how these casinos target influencers with young, impressionable audiences to take advantage of them, and that no amount of money would convince him to take the deal. Mad respect to this young man. The NFL, NBA, and MLB should take notes. Going all in on promoting sports betting to their fans is a disgrace. It’s a morally bankrupt move to drive profits by taking money from young, impressionable, often struggling, men. They should be ashamed.

There is a really frustrating bill making progress in NJ that wants to ban any inducements for customers utilizing RG tools. While well-intentioned, there is a difference between RG and PG and all this does is discourage behavior we should encourage every bettor to embrace.

Is there a real reason for a gambler to travel to Las Vegas? You get such a better experience at local casinos it’s not even close.

Watching the @iamjohnoliver episode about prediction markets right now. It’s very concerning how the majority of the public is being introduced to this asset class. We need to do more work to properly educate the public about prediction markets. I may start writing about the philosophy of prediction markets and the value they provide to the world. If you’re interested in collaborating on this effort, please let me know!
