@jimshapiro 1) Ensure your practices are as close to the game as possible. 2) Always have opposition to develop decision making at all times. 3) Always add competition to your activities regardless of the exercise. 4) “Catch them when they’re doing good” will improve players 10-fold.

Question for all coaches that have coached longer than 10 years. If you could go back to your first day as a coach and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be? Mine. Spend more time investing in the hearts of my players and less time on X’s and O’s. Winning will take care of itself when you learn how to win the hearts of your players.

@CoachDavidBaird @SundayShare10 Absolutely love this! A fellow coach I know uses the quote “winners do more” so when a team wins their game in practice, they get to do push ups etc. changing that mindset is brilliant.

FUNishments 🤩 not punishments 🥵 Using exercise as a reward can foster a healthy relationship between children and physical activity ❤️ and create a culture of wanting to be physically active ⚽️ 🏃 #SundayShare Full video and more coaching tips 👇 scoreboardsoccer.com/dl/sessions

@LeeDunneSoccer My last 6 U9 games have been 0-0 mate. I play a 1-6-0-0. Working on defending in a back 4 whilst also bringing the wingers back to protect the wide channels. Really happy with my clean sheets.

I coached a U9 team that won 8-7 today. Mistakes everywhere. Some attempted possession and purposeful play, but mostly not. Some great goals on both sides, and really positive environment. Every game should be like that!

Had a player from a prominent US youth club explain that the coach runs “fitness Wednesdays.” (Little or no contact with the ball) Can we agree to do better. Intense, competitive and demanding training games will do the trick. #TOVO

@movementcoachkm So goalkeepers don’t develop, players don’t get to shoot against keepers and then also players shoot less? Sounds horrific. Talk about over complicating player development. Players develop by participating in activities which resemble the game.

Germany progresses again. The last change while elite level successful wasn’t sustained at either end. The ability to self assess and accept change is a strength of very few organisations. Feedback came from the children in pilots, not the parents or coaches! - no keepers till 10/11 - short games from 6-9 - no 1 off games, just festivals - more touches - more opportunities to score goals - Endzones and not goals at 6/7 - removal of 11-a-side tactical mentality - take out heading - no referees to free up people to ref at higher ages - The IRFU is actually one of them and have a very progressive approach to coaching, self assessment and children’s place in sport in Ireland. Their success is obvious. And the Germans will just do it. They won’t implement it here and there or allow loopholes or ambiguity, they’ll just do it. Based on children’s feedback and our scientific knowledge of what suits children at various ages, the Germans have changed; ifuturecoaching.com/german-youth-r…

I don’t mention these girls enough, but they have been a joy to coach this past year. Today we concluded our conference season with a 14-1-1 record and tied for 1st (2nd on goal difference). #8 ranked team in the GA, and looking forward to play-offs in New Jersey next month. Excited to see what more they can achieve this year. ⚽️
