@MarketStEl The thing is, Cindy doesn’t really care about Black developers. She is just using them as a justification for her bad decisions. Otherwise she wouldn’t be handing out contracts to outfits from Ohio.

Councilmember Bass has tried to dismiss all criticism of her decision making, but if seems like her own nephew agrees with it!

@DPearsonPHL But I know why she won’t choose it. They don’t apply palm grease in order to get their projects off the ground.

@CthReader29033 @DPearsonPHL Walkability and freestanding SFRs are also compatible. Consider the tens of thousands of small towns in this country built before World War II. And: Your kids will be healthier down the road if they get more exercise. Walking is the most basic form of exercise.

@DPearsonPHL You can always move to China if you prefer dense packed housing. Urbanist seem driven to try and create some kind of human warehousing utopia with protected bikes lanes. Why do you care how my kids get to school?

@DPearsonPHL I once heard Deist philosophy described thusly: “The universe is a giant clock, and God is the clockmaker.” IOW, he put it together, wound it up, and let it go of its own power.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

@DPearsonPHL Jesus told his disciples to win converts; this much is true. But many of our Founders were Deists, who didn’t go for that sort of thing. That’s why our First Amendment forbids a state religion like many European states have

@DPearsonPHL @Kwame09 The BSL has never carried all the people it was designed to carry, nor has the southern terminal station housed all the trains it was built to house. Unfortunately, the lower level will probably never be used because it's not accessible

@Kwame09 To be fair to them, they don't have anything like the Broad Street Line at their stadiums. The Foxboro line schedule usually looks like this and can hold at most 1400 customers at a time. The Broad Street line has much more capacity and frequency.

@DPearsonPHL Philly made building transit to a football stadium make sense by combining it with a baseball field in 1971. Then, when that didn't work, the two teams each built their own. Meanwhile, the basketball and hockey teams shared an arena at the same site. Genius.

There is truth to the fact that football stadiums are kind of a nightmare when it comes to site selection. So many people use them at once that ideally you'd have a heavy rail transit connection. But they are used so infrequently that building one makes very little sense.

The person who bought this trinity in a gated courtyard community in 2021 is moving on, presumably to bigger digs. If you’re looking for your first home, this one’s an excellent choice. open.substack.com/pub/marketstel…

But neighborhood groups are skeptical, noting that Councilmember Cindy Bass's preferred developers have a track record of failure at Germantown's historic city owned buildings. (They also have question's about the developer's ties to her office.) See also: inquirer.com/real-estate/co…

A new redevelopment proposal for Germantown Town Hall is advancing in City Council, with well regarded charter school YouthBuild planning offices and job training services--not traditional classrooms--for the historic building. inquirer.com/real-estate/co…

@MarketStEl @DPearsonPHL The regions you speak of are exclusively a money sink for subsidies. Almost 100% of the growth in corn in this country is centered on burning it for fuel which is an asinine policy that exists solely due to corporate welfare. That feeds no one. We aren't a nation of farmers.

@CaralhoPhilly @DPearsonPHL I said WHEAT. Corn is not a major ingredient in bread, nor do we produce fuel from wheat. Explain the farm economy of the Plains states to me, then

@CaralhoPhilly @DPearsonPHL The ONLY areas? “No farms, no food.” There’s a reason the part of the country I grew up in is called “the nation’s breadbasket.” Seen any wheat growing around here?

@DPearsonPHL There are no fiscal conservatives, just Nazis that want to destroy the country by committing sadism on the only areas of the country that actually produce economic output.

@DPearsonPHL It's very easy to focus on optimizing 1 variable rather than the big picture because humans aren't good at understanding the big picture. Mandatory car seat laws, for example, prevent 8000 births a year to save the lives of 57 kids a year.

For whatever reason, Philadelphia is mostly immune to this. One of our most prominent urbanist activists is a senior firefighter, and our department rarely intervenes on street policy.
