On this date in 1865, the Army of the Potomac ceremonially marched up Pennsylvania Avenue, celebrating the defeat of the Confederacy and the Union’s victory in the Civil War. (Present-day Confederate flag wavers: please make note of this)

Democrats should have their own “Contract with America.” Here’s what should be in it: @markusbatchelor/note/p-198754465?r=gxnwv&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@markusbatchel

The genius of Republicans’ 1994 “Contract with America” was not ideological purity — it was clarity. After decades in the wilderness, a clear agenda set the GOP on a march back to power. Democrats need one today. My latest on Substack: open.substack.com/pub/markusbatc…

Lived, fought, and died for democracy abroad while being denied it at home. Honor their sacrifice. Give DC the vote.

Proposed by 3 veterans from #WashingtonDC who served in the Great War, the District of Columbia War Memorial lists the names of 499 Washington residents who died in military service during World War I. The white marble domed memorial was dedicated in 1931.

A fighter, statesman & founding father — gone too soon. Long live the legacy of John A. Wilson. 🎥: 1982. Wilson + SNCC alum in DC’s new political power structure — incl. Marion Barry + Eleanor Norton — discuss achieving their activist ideals inside gov.
Council of DC@councilofdc

On this date in 1993, we lost John A. Wilson—our fourth Council Chairman & our first Home Rule Ward 2 Councilmember. The headquarters of the District government--our city hall, county seat, & statehouse--is named for him. He is sorely missed. Share your memories here if you wish
