Even when the maximum sentence is not imposed on a defendant, simply having longer potential sentences on the books in our code can lead to adverse collateral consequences including related to immigration status.” Missing from this assessment: ▫️Victims. ▫️Awareness that actions have consequences and life impacts above and beyond criminal penalties. The Coalition plans to turn out tomorrow for the Safety Committee meeting. Please email or call your Councilmember if you want them to reject this draft proposal and draft a new ordinance narrowly tailored to Camp compliance. Insist that City Prosecutors have a lead role in writing the ordinance.
