These almost weekly articles tell me two things:
1/ The American right needs to terrify the American people into believing working until you drop then begging on GoFundMe to pay your medical bills is a sign of national greatness.
2/ Americans do not understand what ‘rich’ is.

From @WSJopinion: What happens when Europeans find out how poor they are? The Continent trails far behind U.S. economic output. Politics is bound to catch up sooner or later, writes Joseph Sternberg. on.wsj.com/4n5v2Wq

Wow! Why didn’t I think of this. Dr. Oz just blew my mind by telling me that the solution to chronic illness, like my rheumatoid arthritis and my ocular melanoma is to simply take better care of myself! Holy Jesus! So now I understand why we don’t need Medicaid or Medicare… All we need to do is be healthier! Eureka! x.com/Acyn/status/19…

@BetterDrivingUS @TomasCernik @the_transit_guy My dude, your country is 36 trillions in debt. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck and are one medical emergency away from bankruptcy. I am afraid you are poorer than you think.
English

@TomasCernik @the_transit_guy Europeans use more public transportation than the US, and Europeans are poorer than US citizens. These things are connected.
English

@IWarrior89 @defense_civil25 Tja, the only things he cooks so far are the US citizens, Nasdaq, S&P500, Dow, US Bond markets.
English

@defense_civil25 This is a long game. This is exactly what we elected DJT to do so let him fucking COOK!

@CilComLFC @KobeissiLetter It’s either a bluff or they simply don’t give a shit about any of their industries or people any longer. Either is equally plausible.

@natronium99 @AleksandrX13 The F-16 MLU is more or less equivalent to a block 50/52 F-16.
English

@AleksandrX13 Yeah I mean there are a million variants and mods that have been applied over the years, so it's probably a safe assumption that whatever final configuration was provided was done so intentionally. F-16C/D are being retired from active service right now--I wish we'd send those

THE F-16s BEING SUPPLIED TO UKRAINE COME WITH SERIOUS LIMITATIONS...
...that make them incapable of taking on russian aircraft in air-to-air combat, or of destroying them on their airfields.
Here are the details....
---
OUTDATED RADARS:
Ukraine's F-16s are equipped with the mechanically-steered array (MSA) AN/APG-66(V)2 radar, an older model that was superseded in later model F-16s by the AN/APG-68 series. The latest models of the F-16s sold with the latter radar are equipped with the (V)9 model.
This is a radar that is less capable even than the versions of the MiG-29’s N019 radar that have been upgraded by our own industry.
Ukraine needs the power and range of modern active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars found in newer F-16 versions.
---
LINK 16 HARDWARE HAS BEEN REMOVED:
Making matters worse, all of the aircraft sent to Ukraine thus far have had their Link 16 hardware removed. Without this, the effective ranges at which we are able to engage Russian aircraft is about one-third of the range at which their fighter aircraft can fire on us.
This effectively makes it impossible for us to use the F-16 for an air-to-air mission. The best we can do is to employ the aircraft in trying to use short-range missiles to shoot down Russian drones or air-launched cruise missiles and glide bombs.
We then tried to integrate the US-made AIM-9X onto the MiG-29.
But the people from Raytheon (the missile’s manufacturer) then objected to us using the missile in this way (!) - on our own fighters.
---
CRITICAL POINTS:
Without Link 16, not only are F-16s unable to fire longer-range air-to-air missiles, which could permit them to take out Russian bomber aircraft before they launch their cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities.
They are also unable to fire the long-range US AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) that could take out Russian bombers while they are still at their bases on the ground.
---
Note that SOME of this may not have been done 'on purpose'
Remember that these were aircraft that nations were looking to replace with more state-of-the-art aircraft anyway, and which have been sourced from a number of donor nations, NOT from the US.
The US has not sent any F-16s.
Underline that part, because it's also an important point.
The F-16s sent to Ukraine are A/B variants that were produced in the 80s. They've had mid-life upgrades done on them to extend structural integrity as well as upgrading mission computers for newer munitions and better target management.
However, these are not the same machines as the later C/D, E/F, or new V variants that could drop the russians out of the sky and kill air defense from outside their engagement ranges.
Consider that these jets are block 10/20 designs whereas contemporary F-16s are block 70. Not to mention the challenge of getting their radios/crypto/datalinks to work with existing non-Nato infrastructure.
---
So the F-16s supplied are good as a defense against drone attacks inside Ukraine - but they are NOT capable of taking out russian aircraft.
And - obviously - THAT is what is CRITICALLY needed.

English

@AleksandrX13 @KeizersTheo The Dutch used the F-16 MLU during Allied Force for fighter sweeps to clear the sky in front of a strike package. They even shot down a Mig-29 with it using an Amraam. I think they used their own radar for the engagement.
English

Agreed - but please note the stripping of the Link 16 (at US insistence).
Note also that our F-16s are being used largely to down incoming heavy drones and cruise missiles (which saves civilian lives, no doubt about that!)
My post doesn't say they're useless - not at all. But the limitations prevent them from engaging the russian air force at range, that's all.
English

@MoonshotTim @TheFl0orIsLaVa Making shoes and shirt is critical industry?
English

You’re missing the point completely. It’s not about chasing $2/hour jobs, it’s about rebuilding critical industries, securing supply chains, and creating real middle-class opportunities here at home. We don’t need Vietnam’s wages, we need vision, leadership, and the guts to stop selling out our future for cheap imports. Keep laughing while others build. We’ll see who’s still standing.
English

@BALUCIAGA May I ask why it is ONE minute and not 30 seconds, 2 minutes or another number?
English

according to the laws of physics, if we build a spacecraft that travels to the speed of light, we can shrink the distance to the andromeda galaxy. meaning, we could traverse across that distance in ONE minute but if we came back to earth - 4 million years would’ve gone by.

Sounds nice, but America is not that and doesn’t aspire to be. America is fierce and fearless, believes in hard work and seeks wealth, strength and independence. It’s why nearly all the innovation in the world comes from here. It’s why people from all over the world want to work here. Ask yourself, when was the last time you were wowed by an amazing innovation that came from Europe?
English

@TheAntiMule1 @TheFl0orIsLaVa This is King Frederik X, he served in the Frogmen Corps which is the maritime special operations force of the Danish Armed Forces.

@nicholadrummond @myndmaven I read that the upcoming block 4 variant is even much beter.
English

We need to be wary of criticism of the F-35. A lot of it comes from competitors or foreign agents. It is beyond doubt that the F-35A is a massively capable aircraft with no direct competitor in Europe at this time. The F-35B is also very good, but its STOVL capability inevitably reduces range and payload. The problem with all three versions is that they are extremely expensive to operate / support. But if 12 F-35s are more effective than 48 F-16s, this may not matter. The bottom line is that the $316 billion spent developing the F-35 delivers a lot of capability.
English

@myndmaven @nicholadrummond The Dutch airforce is happy with it's F-35s. The program was flawed, but the aircraft itself is great.
English

@nicholadrummond Curious if you think the F-35 has lived up to its hype...?
My understanding is that it hasn't, and has been a god-awful money pit, but you would know better.
English

@Dinker711 @GaryMarcus @KettlebellDan That's BS. I have traveled all over Europe, Asia. Never happened to me and never seen or heard it happened to other people.
English

@GaryMarcus @KettlebellDan When I was at the Athens airport- a police officer came up to me- asked me a bunch of questions for several minutes- looked at my phone- and then left. It's what customs do in every country. They are there to protect their country.
English

@belisle1_dee That is why the US has not enough F-22s, too expensive. Production halted at around 186 aircrafts. Only the Gripen has the GE414 engine. The avionics of Gripen, Typhoon, Rafale are developed in Europe.
English

There is virtually no better commercial you can run for the European defense industry than these two sentences uttered by Trump.
No matter with whom I’m talking about this on this side of the pond, the common understanding is that this is going to severely damage the US industry. Another self-inflicted wound by the White House.

English

@chrisdhjkmm By not able/willing to sell it to allies (economy of scale), the US has to carry the burden of the whole program itself. The NGAD program was paused because the projected cost per aircraft was 300 millions USD. Can the US afford a fleet of 200?
English

@boi_jeenius @g_gosden What’s exactly your point Trini? Not everyone can have Americans most advanced technology, it would give away the power that we have. Lol.
English

@Silverback141 Never heard of Gripen E/F, Typhoon, Rafale, GCAP or FCAS?
