My brother called me this week and I had to put him on speaker so my wife could hear him too. Some context first. He married his wife when her daughter was barely a year old. Her biological father passed before she was born. My brother has been the only dad she has ever known. She's 17 now and pushing every boundary she can find. She got caught sneaking out. My brother sat her down and laid out her punishment. She looked him dead in the eyes and said "You're not my dad, I don't have to listen to you." He said it hit him somewhere quiet, but he kept his composure. Told her calmly that he was her legal guardian and as long as she lived under his roof she's bound to follow his rules. Fast forward to the park. She turns to him mid aisle and says "I'm starving, I need food." My brother stopped, looked at her, and said, "Hi Starving. Nice to meet you. I'm not your dad." Her little sister fell on the floor and started laughing. His stepdaughter wanted to evaporate on the spot. His wife told him he was being childish. He called me from the parking lot still laughing. I told him he was the most childish person I have ever known. But then he told me what happened after dinner. He said he knocked on her door, sat on the edge of her bed,told her he was sorry for the joke. Then he told her she was wrong about one thing, that he was there the day she was born, changed her diapers, stayed up when she was sick, met every boyfriend she thought he didn't know about, said he wasn't going anywhere, said they were stuck with each other whether she liked it or not. Then he hugged her. She cried for a long time. He called me after and his voice was different. My brother is a clown, but he's also the best dad I've ever seen up close.

My sister, my advice here is, first sit with him, talk to him in a good manner, advice him, show him the danger, and keep praying for him, if he refuse to stop doing it, then take it to your elders, parents, involve them explain to them, and leave the rest to them and Allah🙏

Well I had a neighbor then, newly married couple just trying to start a family. I like staying indoors a lot… not because I don’t like to interact with people, I just love my personal space a little too much…😆 But this particular neighbor, his wife was always coming around… knocking on my door to check on me and gist. She was about 9 months gone then, and I was 7months pregnant. She called me by 1:00am midnight Fortunately for her, I haven’t slept off yet so immediately I saw it, I knew why… because she had told me days before that she is near her Due Date. I called her back and she said she was in labor. Her husband wasn’t around, he had traveled to Abuja. I woke my husband up: “Baby it’s favor, she’s in labor, dress up let’s go!” Minutes later, we rushed downstairs, knocked on her door. She managed to open, she was already in serious discomfort. I asked for her delivery pack, we packed everything and my husband drove us straight to the hospital. Imagine driving from Sangotedo to Jakande by 2:00am with two pregnant women. 😩 We got there and the nurses attended to her immediately. One of them looked at me and said: “Madam, please relax, you’re also pregnant .” But I couldn’t just stay still. I was worried & still praying , while rubbing her back.🥺 I stayed till around 4:00am when she was fully dilated, that was when her in-laws came & they insisted I go home and rest. About 2 hours later, she called me… She had delivered safely.☺️ Later that morning, her in-laws started calling me and thanking I and my hubby. Till I left that compound, she never stopped thanking me and my husband.

Here is one thing I know for sure; even under the onslaught of imperialism, a serious country is still a serious country, and it will pull its weight.

Everyone and everything sufferring

A guy in my street spent 9 months in prison for something he never did. While he was inside, his mother aged in ways that had nothing to do with time. Outside, the girl who accused him was pregnant. Then her labor came. You know those Hard, Long and Dangerous ones. In the middle of it, between the pain and the fear of dying, something broke open in her. She grabbed the nurse’s hand and said it wasn’t him. He came back to the street quiet. Too quiet. The boy who used to greet everybody, Help neighbors carry things, Laugh loudly at nothing. Gone. What came back was harder. Colder. No empathy for anyone’s problems. No patience for people’s pain. Like he just switched something off and never switched it back on. I don’t blame him. They took something from him that the truth couldn’t return. His name was cleared. But nobody gave him back the person he was before they dragged it through the mud.
