Take a walk with me through the iris garden 💜 No music. No filters. Just birds singing, roosters crowing, cats weaving through the flowers, kids running past, and 20-year-old bearded irises absolutely showing off this spring. I’ve never seen them bloom this abundantly before. Not once. Every time I walk the driveway right now I just stop and stare in disbelief. The colors, the ruffles, the sweet lemony-grape perfume when you lean in close… it feels like stepping into another world for a few minutes. You’ll even spot Red Cody lounging in the shade and our little kitten darting through the blooms at the end 🌿 Honestly, this is why I homestead. Not perfection. Not productivity. Moments like this. Now I need your help though 😂 The irises only bloom for a short season and I want this driveway to stay colorful and abundant all summer long. What are your favorite DEER-RESISTANT flowers or plants for continuous summer blooms? 🌸🦌 Thank you for walking the garden with me. 💛

Yesterday Grok helped me write up and execute a Quitclaim Deed using a Power of Attorney. Today Grok helped me bake sourdough sandwich bread. What can’t Grok do? 😅

@JohnnaCrider1 That’s wild. I had one in a pot in Oregon, it never bloomed. I had to bring it inside every winter.

Lavender should grow well by you especially an English which can take cooler weather. It good in cooking & for sachets. It would be a lovely addition to your homestead garden & it could be green all year by you (not sure) Tumalo Lavender farm is in Oregon blog.herbsociety.org/lavender-in-th… It's deer resistant & supposed to repel mosquitoes. Calendula is deer resistant & a great food & medicinal plant. I plan to grow some from seed if it works. Not sure where you are in OR, some areas are more temperate/milder in the winter

@MissionUniX It’s definitely you. Mine doesn’t get that tall. 😂 Once I took care of roses in So Cal. They were huge. The hot almost costal weather with the pumice ground must be perfect for them.

Your leaves so look similar to mine. I don't know what mine is but it can get about 7 foot tall. Not sure how tall Peace can get or maybe there is something magical about my garden that grows giant bean stalk roses? 🤣 It had a bad case of scale about 2 years ago. I cut it down to the ground to try to save it. It shot up two canes which are now over 6 foot tall.

@current_access Yes I keep hoping any day now, I’ll start turning around and getting better. Some weeks I think, this is it, then I crash again for days. 😔 This has been going on for years now.

One of the hardest things about slowly becoming chronically ill is realizing the people around you adjusted to your decline instead of responding to it. When it happens gradually, there’s no dramatic moment where everyone suddenly understands you can’t carry what you used to. Things just quietly stop getting done while everyone keeps expecting the old version of you to reappear.

@current_access Pretty sure we all do it. Possibly a built in learning mechanism. Some of us take longer than others to self correct. It’s worth reflecting on.

One of the strangest things about unresolved pain is watching people become the exact kind of person that once hurt them. Sometimes not permanently. Sometimes just for a moment. Long enough to send the text. Raise the voice. Repeat the wound. A lot of healing is learning to stop yourself mid-pattern.

@HappyGrammy Definitely not getting any younger over here. 😅 Thanks for letting me know that it will be a fight, because I plan to give it my all, even if that is less and less over time. 💛

@MarsHomestead Same applies to aging. I keep expecting things to be like they were but it’s a slow and steady decline. You can fight back but it can be exhausting. Bless you. 🙏

@ModernDad Now I’m all shook up. 🤣 For me this would ideally be running, but I must start at a walking pace. Jogging used to calm my mind.
