Bell’s palsy is IDIOPATHIC facial nerve paralysis. This means that EVERY cause of that facial nerve paralysis has been ruled out (brain tumour, nerve tumour, middle ear disease, mastoid disease, parotid tumour, nerve infection.) You can’t call Bell’s unless you’ve MRI’d. 2/

Ramsay Hunt syndrome (Herpes Zoster Oticus) is facial nerve paralysis due to varicella zoster virus (same virus that causes chickenpox). There has to be vesicles/rash. Without rash it’s just simply called facial nerve paralysis. 1/

@drkproudlove @DrEricLevi In 25 years of doing nasal surgery I have yet to see a case of empty nose syndrome. I do believe however that total inferior turbinectomy would raise that risk. That’s why I preserve the medial surfaces.

Your nose is lined with mucous producing erectile tissue. One side of your turbinates swell and then alternate with the other side every 2-4 hours. Turbinates in your nose go erect every few hours. It’s the nasal cycle. Treatment available when it’s obstructive.

@DrEricLevi ‘Rhinitis of recumbency’ …. I’ve gone through all the iterations of turbinate reduction. Now I remove the turbinate bone and lateral mucosa, preserving the medial surface. Not an easy procedure, but works well.

@Dr_Caffrey just read your article about climate scientists being censored by the pro-Trump pro-fossil fuels lobby. But is it possible that scientists who have solid data to suggest increasing temperatures are not all bad would equally be censored by the left? eg Shellenberger?
