Last day at work before I’m on annual leave for the big day… …I’ve already cried twice with the well wishes 😅 I need to get a grip.

@DocDoLi @DrEilidhMaria AA are different to PA. It would no difference to me in a list by list basis as trainees and AA both facilitate me getting a cup of tea. I think most of us would prefer trainees as we like training people in theatre and watching them develop over years

PAs are great for consultants. They don't rotate, they won't be competing for consultancy jobs and will do whatever the consultant in charge wants. It's almost like having your own personal assistant that does all the things you don't want to do. Who cares about training doctors anyway?...

@Roadman_Podcast @bikeracechats I’ve gone from nothing but bikes and have discovered the ultra running community. For most people it seems to be just about overall fitness and what your mind will let you do as everyone’s body gives up after a few hours. Just really long brisk hikes with lots of eating

I’m quitting cycling (sort of) I’ve held a Cat 1 racing license since 2010. Cycling has been my life since then. Every action, every decision calibrated through a binary lens, will this make me faster on the bike? This single focus has come with a little success on the bike but there has been a personal cost - relationships, business and health have suffered to varying degrees through the years. It might surprise you to read that someone who rides a bike 15+ hours a week for over a decade is talking about compromising health but it’s true. High performance isn’t healthy. The goal has been a performance or a power output to the exclusion of everything else. The blinders have been on. I turned 40 this year and for the first time in my life I find my mind wandering to what life will be like aged 50 years old, 60 or even that marginal decade of my life. Will I be able to lift a suitcase up a staircase, go hiking with loved ones or play a round of golf? I've started digging into the research to help me with forecasting and as a result I'm totally changing my training. As the saying goes, “Show me your habits, and I'll show you your future.” My current habits (just riding the bike) won’t get me to my desired future self. I’ll still be riding my bike a lot and I still hope to win the odd bike race but cycling performance will be a bi product of a new lifestyle, not the goal itself. This new venture is not just a pivot but a profound expansion of my athletic identity. It's about exploring the vast potential of my body and mind, embracing a myriad of physical disciplines, and understanding how holistic fitness contributes to a vibrant, fulfilling life. With the podcast taking off in the past couple of years I have amazing access to the greatest minds in sports physiology, psychology and performance. I plan to document my transformative journey both here on X and through my podcast, sharing insights, challenges, and triumphs along the way. My goal is to provide a roadmap that might inspire others to consider their long-term health and happiness and showcase how cycling is a part of the solution we seek but not the entire answer.

Yet another @GarminUK watch broken at a year old. That now makes 3. I honestly wonder why I keep buying them 🤷🏻‍♂️ Refurbished unit with less than a years warranty is the offer. Think it might be time for a @wahoofitness or @suunto watch instead.

@KDogg0_o I don’t dispute that girls might not like it, I am just saying that it has always happened and it’s probably not meant to be pervy . (I suspect times have changed though and people should probably just stop doing it to everyone…)

Watching #RVVwomen highlights… Seeing a man try and pat Kopecky on the butt going up the Koppenberg. No. Just bloody no. Stop it now.

A lovely day in the hills, and ended up chatting to someone training for an ultra with a fleeting thought that I might do that. Behold, midlife crisis is upon me. strava.app.link/48wrl7eCoIb

@keithdunn BM100 and @JasminKParis have really come into the public consciousness this year. Lots of hospital people are talking about it who know nothing about running

@ICMdoc @keithdunn @JasminKParis I am fascinated by the Barkley since that 2016 documentary. What an achievement though for all of them but especially Jasmin. I wish I had even a little teeny bit of that talent and brutal determination.
