@zacbowden Because Windows can be replaced by other oses for some type of work. Devs don't need to be on Windows now. And it took Microsoft a long time to react. They do now, because it will cut on theire bottom line.

BREAKING: Microsoft just announced several major changes to Windows 11 in an effort to win back user trust and evolve the platform into something people will actually want to use over macOS and Linux! It's a huge announcement that addresses Windows 11's biggest problems today, tackling core fundamental issues such as unreliable system performance, UX consistency, AI bloat and general enshittification. Microsoft has confirmed that this year, it WILL be reducing where ads and Copilot appear throughout the system, including in Start, Widgets, Notepad, Photos, and more! File Explorer and Windows Search will be upgraded with improved performance and capabilities that make finding apps and files much faster and easier. The OS will become lighter with less RAM and system utilization at idle, making it smoother to run on low end hardware with limited memory. These improvements will also benefit high-end PCs too. Windows Update will be improved with more granular controls and the ability to postpone updates for longer, along with reducing how often the OS needs to restart to install an update. Microsoft has also confirmed that it's bringing back fan favourite features such as the ability to move the Taskbar! It's also working to update more areas of the system shell with modern WinUI designs, which should make Windows 11 feel more coherent and complete. There's much more in the announcement, and it honestly all sounds too good to be true. Microsoft really is listening to feedback, and is eager to make Windows the BEST desktop OS on the market. More details including when these changes will arrive in the link! windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

Feed a man fish for a day, and he'll survive. Teach him how to fish, and he becomes self-sufficient. As superstars who were believed to be wielders of digital alchemy, after years of making games for the people who buy and play them, we went and taught them how to make games. The ensuing hilarity of what happens when gamers can just make their own games instead of buying ours, will be studied by alien civilizations trolling through our digital history.

I’m with the community on this one. The new Windows 11 Start menu feels like Microsoft found a way to add clutter while taking away control. Granted, it doesn’t hit me as hard because I barely touch the Start menu anymore. I live on pinned apps (Taskbar) like a hero who refuses to scroll through anything. But even from the sidelines, I get why people are annoyed. When something this central changes and it feels like a downgrade, users notice fast. I do like the Phone Link bit, though! (1/2)

@bdsams I guess the software will come first. But only on current hardware. Unless availability of components gets better and prices go lower. No one will be able to build a gaming machine to use the software.

The Xbox strategy is split, right? They have the "we will make hardware" and "the software is everywhere and so are your games". The software will be done but hardware prices are going to be tough. Would they launch the software without an initial hardware refresh?

@bdsams And mostly the consumer PC market. Game companies will have to work harder to optimise their games on current gen consoles or PC. Not do like Cyberpunk 2077 having a huge difference between PC and consoles.

RAM pricing, GPU pricing, and ...all the other components. There is no chance next-gen consoles will be anything other than 2x this gen. And no one will upgrade, AI might kill the game console.

@hflickster @EmbarcaderoTech Nice, if it's not too much to ask, witch AI did you find most useful for Delphi? I find it a bit hard to choose since it advances so fast.

I keep waiting for someone reputable to call this out about these AI benchmarks but no one seems to. So I will in all CAPS: NOTICE HOW THE AI BENCHMARKS ARE NOT SHOWING THE TIME IT TAKES TO GET A RESULT. For example, yes, GPT 5.2 might be slightly better at coding but it might also take 72 minutes of thinking to get that result compared to 10 minutes for Opus 4.5. I don't have an hour of time to wait for a 2% point difference. This fact needs to be distributed.
