Haha. There’s nothing untoward here. President is covering his bases. The recent Khampepe case confirmed that litigants must obtain permission before citing a judge—even a retired one. That ruling may yet be appealed but, for now, Ramaphosa needs this permission.

Three presidents were asked to resign in the democratic era..One resigned, as asked, the other two refused to resign. Zuma finally did resign, when the Anc threatened him with a vote of no confidence. Ramaphosa has the full support of the Anc and has told his distractors to FO.

If the President took such a decision to interdict the proceedings of the impeachment committee, it would be commendable given the imprudence and irrationality of initiating impeachment proceedings based on a report that is under judicial review. Seeking an interdict to halt the impeachment proceedings pending the outcome of judicial review of the fundamentally flawed Section 89 Independent Panel Report would constitute a rightful and judicious assertion of his rights and not avoidance of accountability.
