Women are making efforts to reduce food waste. Food Masters South Africa is an Associate signatory to the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA)’s food loss and waste voluntary agreement where manufacturers commit to reducing food waste by half by 2030!

Causes of food waste vary from processing problems, overproduction, unstable markets and consumer behaviour. Interestingly, food waste can be turned into a useful resource like making compost for crop nutritional boost or turning it into renewable energy such as biogas.
