I thought I was losing my mind but, no, it's the sound of Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variations through my bathroom window.

@AskDyson Very frustrated about the non-delivery of my order—still showing as "Pickup Scheduled" almost a week after order. Your chat/call centre just say that it has been escalated, I'll get an update in 24 hours. But no updates, no meaningful explanation and no delivery.

@mhdpartnership Neatly and eloquently put. Don’t disagree with a word of it—my only quibble would have been to use ‘horrified’ where Thomas uses ‘scared’.

I'm designing the typeface of the future of Britain. After a decade of sans serif maximalism, I've spent a long time wondering: how could one design a typeface that is both rooted in an aesthetic and cultural tradition AND is also slick and screen friendly? Last year, I started work on a typeface where each letter pays tribute to a different British design tradition while remaining in harmony with one another. A = City of London's Albertus × London Underground' Johnston I = Neo-classical A = British Art Nouveau × Thomas Heatherwick's London Bus O & S = William Morris / Arts and Crafts-inspired R = Gothic revival Now, I want to finish it all off... but I need ideas: Which design traditions should be featured? Which letters have you seen in the wild that you live that could inspire a letter? Send me your favourite letters! The more niche and weird the better.

People rave about Waverley station but for me, Glasgow Central is Scotland’s great terminus. Full of light, easy to find your platform, and lovely old wood shop fronts.

@s8mb Electrification critical to delivering those types of service but most of the network is longer, less frequently served routes where electrification, desirable as it is for MANY reasons, is not operationally essential. So v hard to get cost/benefit analysis over the line.

@s8mb Not much of a dedicated freight network in the UK. This discrepancy is largely explained by the vast majority of our pax km being accrued on high-frequency electrified (sub)urban networks, overwhelmingly in London/SE. 1 in 6 mainline rail journeys in UK is on the Elizabeth Line!

Though only 39% of Britain's railway lines are electrified, 60% of passenger rail services are. Some of the gap is because we have a big unelectrified freight network. More lines becoming electrified would probably lead to greater passenger utilisation. hannahritchie.substack.com/p/rail-electri…
