Golden Tides situation is fascinating and peak crypto game does well, makes some money, sells some NFTs (and kinda promises an airdrop) now the game raises $3.5m and announces they are not a crypto game anymore... every holder is furious, calls them ruggers so what? reality is, the game did well and now they want to scale, they realized they can't do that in crypto and need money so they pivot they likely would not be able to raise $3.5m if they decided to stay in crypto and launch a token... on the same hand, launching a token anytime soon is likely a death sentence for them and would pull away A LOT of resources from making the game better (which should be their #1 focus by a mile since apparently they got something good on their hands) now you know you will get a ton of backslash if you announce you are not crypto anymore, but you need to do that do clear the air, sometimes ripping the bandaid off is the best thing to do and there are worse things than a few upset crypto people but they have a good point, they bought NFTs partially as skins, but also because you teased they would get a token airdrop... so now they feel ignored... reality is once again, if GT stays in crypto and launches a token, your NFTs won't make you rich since the market has very little appetite for a new game token right now... so GT would have to deal with bagholders that are not happy about the token price lose-lose... so you might as well go ahead and do the thing that's best for game and studio, but feels like a rug for some (it's not) at the end of the day you are "investing" in an early startup, which means you are trusting them with your money and accepting the risks that come with that, sometimes you just have to accept that tl;dr: game does well, raises money, exits crypto to grow, NFT holders feel rugged, now what
