weekly allowance is the greatest parent hack of all time. kid never complains about wanting toys, just saves up for whatever he wants. any time we go to the store we see the classic kid hounding their parent for just one more toy scene. and our kid never does that anymore. any time he'd ask for something we'd just tell him he can buy whatever he wants for his own money. now it's as natural as anything to him. and if he can't afford it at the time, he will just save up until he does so we give up $5 ($1*5yo) a week, plus any recycling, and kid gets a decent toy or lego set every or every other month, and we never have to fight about it, and he never has to be disappointed about it. he learns that things cost money, money has real value, treasures the things he gets so much more, and he's learning to be responsible with money - and that if you just learn to wait for a while you can get really cool stuff! (and it's unconditional. don't want him to stop helping around the house when a few dollars a week don't cut it) now he's saved up over $100 and can look at the big toys, and he's so excited and proud of himself! it's literally just wins all around

If you're selling a home, you should have to provide a building inspection report - instead of every interested buyer paying for their own. We're changing the rules to require exactly that.

Love this experience by one of the basic income pilot participants in Wales. They got £1,290 a month after tax for two years (about $1,862/mo), and at first they planned to not get a job, but then after getting into the pilot, they changed their mind, because why not do more to get more money?

This is definitely a challenging storm for the Yarbo. Going down the driveway isn't an issue, but coming back up the incline (the house is about 40-feet higher than the street) is giving it a workout and draining the battery faster than it did during the last storm. The snow is really wet and heavy, so it's bunching up in front of the machine as it's going up the hill a lot. But so far it keeps going.

JUST IN 🔴 Washington is supporting an Israeli Syrian initiative to develop a shared ski resort on Mount Hermon, according to sources familiar with the plan. The venture would be operated primarily by Druze communities on both sides of the frontier and fits into a wider U.S. effort to promote civilian level cooperation between Jerusalem and Damascus, with the aim of easing long standing tensions between Israel and Syria.
