@averagemoneymd I had rent, security deposit for the new house we're moving to, and board exam fees all due within a week of each other this month. My savings account is a little bare at the moment 😅

I find it remarkable how expensive life seems to have gotten. Here are expenses from today, a day off I spent with my wife and son:
Oil change: $76 (told I need a new battery)
New battery: $234 (self installed)
BJs Grocery order: $154
Half tank of gas: $51
Lunch with in-laws: $114 (optional but you get the point)
Total: $629
Now we can afford it but outside of eating out for lunch, these are all necessary expenses. How are people making it out there????

@jonathankjones @JBlunt1018 US MD match rate: 93.5%
US DO match rate: 93.2%
US IMG match rate: 70%
Non-US IMG match rate: 56.4%
Non-US foreign grads actually had the lowest match rate in the past 5 years. But keep believing they're preferentially accepting foreign docs over US ones.
English

The simple and obvious solution is to allow ONLY U.S. medical to enter the match and THEN let graduate medical programs and foreign medical grads Scramble to fill spots.
Any guess what, the Scramble already exists!
So, you don’t even need to create a new system. You just need to limit the Match to U.S. grads for U.S. residency spots that U.S. citizens pay for! Then, “the best” foreign medical grads get those spots you all keep saying “nobody else wants”!
This has become a national security issue!!!

@olsonplanner There are so many other things I could ramble about, but I think these are some of the bigger ones for when you first start planning your move.
For everyone, congrats on matching! It's an amazing feeling and you should celebrate as much as possible while you can.

@olsonplanner 5) Have fun. Residency happens once. Your attending paycheck will trump anything you make during residency. When you're 5 years out of residency, are you going to regret that vacation or night out you took in residency? Probably not. Do the fun thing. But be smart about it.

DELAYED, NOT DENIED!!!!! I AM GOING TO BE AN EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
This last year was quite literally the hardest year of my life. Opening that email a year ago and feeling my heart sink into the pit of my stomach was the worst feeling ever, compounded by the demoralizing process of having to go immediately compose myself enough to go through the SOAP. And, it was made even worse by the fact that, though I love my TY program and the growth I have had this year, I ultimately did not get an EM position in the SOAP, which was what I really wanted.
But despite wanting to give up, I kept my nose to the grindstone and I persevered, working relentlessly to overcome the failure of my 2025 Match. Hard work pays off. Pardon the French, but I fucking did it y’all. I am quite literally shaking and crying in clinic. It was all worth it. Every single moment of effort was worth it. I am good enough, and I deserve to be an emergency medicine physician, which is the farthest thing imaginable from how I felt this time last year. 😭😭😭😭😭
