Anthropic are EA Autists and whether or not their actions end up "bad" it's way more precise to describe their actions as being extremely consistent with those morals. It's why they have significantly lower turnover than any other lab. It's also not that different from the orignal founding goal of OpenAI itself, hence why they fractured and so many left. Their actions are entirely predictable by guessing what motivations an EA would follow. Just as OpenAIs are entirely predictable by guessing what a YC person would do.

Anthropic are the bad guys. We saw how they were deceitful with the lobster trap AI GPU story to pursue their own business aims. And now this. To see them knowingly anthropomorphize LLMs to the Pope of all people, sparking fear and panic, is sad when that is not how LLMs work. “And I will be honest: we keep finding things that are mysterious, even unsettling. We find structures that mirror results from human neuroscience. We find evidence of introspection. We find internal states that functionally mirror joy, satisfaction, fear, grief, and unease.”

I liked how autistic I acted before I moved to SF and way before I met rarionalists because I didnt even know how to perform it or that I was being so. A blessing and curse of current western culture is the ability to recognize the abstract cultural pattern.

Minions are by far the most relatable cartoon characters to the modern person. They resolve the cultural tension of people being told the companies and bosses they work for are evil while they themselves are victims of it. It is the resolution to the philosophies pushed and half understood and a quarter contemplated by academics onto the masses who experience late stage capitalism as mostly alright. They cede the frame "yes we are mindless sexless clones working for an evil person" "but we are still lovable." And they are increasingly sexless. And the individuation is mostly superficial and shallow the way it is for minions. And they are mostly mindless. Yet Despicable Me asserts that they are none the less lovable and ensouled. Minions are the 21st century good but normal person's work of art to assett their own moral standing. To say "you can describe us accurately, and we will continue to be thus. But please, we matter, we are good hearted, let us live, let us love and be loved anyway."

We’re already seeing a 14x YoY increase in GitHub commits, and it’s accelerating. AI has dramatically lowered the cost of writing code, so it’s now being used across far more businesses, applications, and use cases. We’re at the beginning of a massive productivity boom driven by the proliferation of bespoke software throughout the entire economy. Coding has been AI’s breakout use case this year. The fact that it’s increased demand for software engineers — rather than decreased it — should call into question the entire “AI will cause mass job loss” narrative.
