Trump’s new threat: US will be “completely obliterating” electric plants, oil wells and Kharg Island if Straight of Hormuz is “not immediately” reopened

Under international humanitarian law (Geneva Conventions, Additional Protocol I), deliberate attacks on purely civilian objects like electric grids serving homes/hospitals, oil wells as economic assets, or desalination plants for drinking water violate the principles of distinction and proportionality unless they offer clear, direct military advantage outweighing massive civilian harm. Broad "obliteration" to coerce reopening the Strait of Hormuz risks qualifying as collective punishment, banned under Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention and potentially a war crime. Kharg Island, as Iran's main oil terminal, could be dual-use if tied to war logistics. White House says actions will follow the law; experts (e.g., intl law professors, CIVIC) call the described scale excessive. Depends on precise targeting in this ongoing conflict.

Sorry? First Russia, now Iran.. none of this makes any sense to me. Why fuel (literally) your enemies?
