@JoanFrancescOl1 Ocassionaly I am met with theory that Romans also occupied island of Socotra in Indian ocean but there is no specific evidence to confirm it although they surely used the island as important stop on journey to India although in this role it was shared by many other powers trading

@kamilkazani I always though Russians viewed Belarus or Siberia like that.Ukraine being seen more like the core of eastern slavdom and crown jewel of Russia.Sort of like Medival Burgundy to France

If I were to summarise the (pre-2014) public image, e.g. in the TV series, that would probably be a lil bit funny village bumpkin. A good-hearted fellow, but of comical type. It's not so much that s/he is inferior, as that they lack proper acculturation & polish A "peasant"

@kamilkazani The question for me is do Russians see Ukrainians as beneath them? Do they believe Russians are inherently superior?

Iran, having repeatedly stated it wouldn’t negotiate with the US after Washington killed its political and military leadership, has reportedly agreed to pursue another deal with Donald Trump. A typical Putin-style approach. There's no alternative to a Minsk-type ceasefire!

I have a decent track record of predicting this conflict so far so here's where I see things going. (quoted tweet is from six months before we hit Fordow in 2025). Short 🧵
CXCarroll@CXCarroll

@VerminusM @visegrad24 Ukraine helped knock off Assad which in turn forced Russia out of Syria which in turn allowed Israel to turn Syria into a "sterile corridor" for Israel's non-stealth aircraft. Because of that, Israel now has the ability to strike Iran's nuclear facilities.

@nikola_mikovic I am very confused by this conflict. When reading Anas Alhaji it seems this conflict was planned for US to control staits and for USA to profit from selling of gas and crippling of competition in Asia but then stuff like this happens almost as if they want to look weak.

@atMeshki @MazMHussain True but speaking of Qajar Iran it was one of the few countries that was never colonized by Europe in 19 century.I hope Iran becomes safe and advanced country

@MazMHussain Can’t believe we became the playground of superpowers again after a century of struggle for independence. Qajar times are back. How depressing.

I’m not sure I’ll ever top 2025 when it comes to wildlife photography. That feeling is such a blessing and a curse at the same time but the unknown is what makes life worth living.

This reminds me of when Russia strikes a transformer in Ukraine. The damage is often insignificant and can be easily repaired, yet Ukraine claims everything was “destroyed” to deter further Russian attacks. It’s my impression the Gulf states are using a similar strategy.

I agree completely. I am not a fan of K-pop myself. I think it’s especially a bad influence on teenager girls. It’s highly likely Chinese government would want to curb its influence anyway in the future, probably not a outright ban, and putting restrictions on it. The deployment gave it the perfect excuse it needed to act then, turned out to be a good thing. Now it’s removed anyway, the only losing side seems to be SK.

This is a huge story in China right now given how big an outcry the installation of this caused back in 2017: Chinese tourism to South Korea was stopped, the Lotte Group was essentially shut down in China (nearly all of Lotte Mart's 112 Chinese stores were closed down due to "fire safety issues"), Hyundai and Kia had to close factories, k-pop disappeared from Chinese media, etc. And now the US is just dismantling it to send it to the Middle-East... So, quite literally, to have this, South Korea endured tens of billions in economic damage and did enormous harm to its relationship with its neighbor and largest trading partner... only for the US to take it back whenever it suited them. The lesson writes itself.

NEW — 🇰🇷🇺🇸🇮🇷 Korean media published an image from today, showing the US dismantling its THAAD and Patriot systems from S-Korea, to send to the Middle East.
