I visited England in 1965, and my recollection is that lots of English used "soccer" up into the the 1970s. It's perfectly reasonable for Americans to call soccer by one of its traditional names. The English can't seem to come up with a good explanation of why they don't anymore.

Obviously (at least to me) is that football makes most sense as the game's main feature is kicking the ball with your foot. More sense than calling NFL football

🚨Scrapping the Newark bypass: I’m furious that such an important project for the area has been thrown into disarray. This makes a mockery of Andy Burnham’s commitment to bring investment to all parts of the country. I have written to the Transport Secretary and demanded an urgent explanation for local residents. It is shameful that such a big decision has been snuck out by the government without any debate. I will keep campaigning to get spades in the ground as soon as possible so we can finally deliver this crucial project. If Labour continue to fail, a Reform UK government will get this project built. I’ve spoken to Nigel Farage today and we *will* build this road for the people of Newark and Nottinghamshire. Enough of the lies and let downs from Labour.

What the Europeans fail to realize about US soccer fans is that even if only 20% of the country follows the sport, that’s roughly 70 million people, or more than the entire population of France or the UK

Seems my comment about the MetLife stadium is not shared by all in 🇺🇸. As someone who is familiar with more iconic football stadiums throughout the world - true cathedrals built for atmosphere not capacity—the debate/response on both sides of the water has been interesting.

Three years ago SCOTUS told Alabama this map violated the Voting Rights Act. Alabama redrew it anyway. A lower court blocked it again. Twice. Tuesday the same court reversed itself and let the map stand. A Black voter in Alabama's Second District lost their representation to a gerrymander the federal judiciary already found was intentional. The majority just decided that no longer matters.

@MikeKeegan_DM Pretty standard for US stadia. I was at Citi Field in Aug 2019 and was sitting just behind a group of 6 youngish American men. They spent over $1000 (inc tips) on beer during a Mets game.
