Gilbert Leduc was great and that whole match was great. In fact, if we are to believe the promoter Maurice Durand, the match was so great that the network gave them a 30-minute overrun, basically. Here's Durand telling the story while airing out his grievances with the network.

This is Gilbert Leduc and Robert Gastel in the midst of an hour long tag (atypical for the footage though matches went long). One hard shot and right into the hold with brutal, performative flourishes. Gastel (a stooging rogue) suffers. The crowd and commentary are delighted.

@BackupHangman I found the fact that Speedball kicked out of Davis’ finisher sequence, a sequence he fought hard to hit after failing at least once, clean in the middle of the ring, just like that, for no real narrative/story reason, far more baffling, even given the hierarchy.

@BackupHangman Kidd survived a car crash and fought the whole match in a straight jacket and still took a ton to put away by a guy who then called out the world champ. Moreover they went out of their way to note everyone was banned. I can imagine a matchmaker thinking he was plenty protected.

The War Dogs feel like they’re getting the Welcome to the Big Leagues treatment. AEW is big enough and has existed long enough to now be able to do this and I get the sense that because the Dogs were chasing those American dollars for years rather being the ones pursued, it’s now coming with some due paying before they get to eat. Some “Check your ego at the door” jobs to start as a character test. Just my read from the outside looking in.
