This isn't free agency. Almost every team in baseball can put together a trade package for Tarik Skubal. Most GMs won't make that kind of high-stakes gamble because if it fails, it could cost them their jobs. The Dodgers operate differently. They're simply better run than the other 29 organizations.

If the Dodgers land Skubal, MLB can't be taken seriously anymore. How can the MLBPA believe this is good for the game? Count me on the side of a hard salary cap, a hard salary floor, strict rules on deferred money, higher minimum salary and a quicker path to free agency.

I want the Colorado Rockies to be forced to spend a certain amount of money.
I want the Miami Marlins to be forced to spend a certain amount of money.
I want the Cleveland Guardians to be forced to spend a certain amount of money.
I also want to know that none of those teams can be willingly outbid by Steve Cohen’s billions of billions dollars on any given free agent just because Cohen “wants them.”

This is the most common misconception I’ve seen in my comments. I “bootlick” billionaires and want them to get richer. In reality, I’m very happy with the fact that a salary floor is essentially guaranteed to happen, which is going to force the small market owners to invest more into the team. I’ve even said that numerous times, but we know people on Twitter/X only read what they want and mainstream their arguments into two sides. The reality is, a floor and a cap is what solves the problem in baseball. It solves the small market owners issue, it solves the Dodgers issue, and it also from a competitive standpoint greatly penalizes bad front offices that irresponsibly or stupidly give out bad contracts. You don’t have to like it, but there’s a reason every other major sport has this system in place.

The fact that Demond last night announced he was putting his name in the portal when he is legally prohibited from doing so shows how ignorant he is to this entire process. Call it petty, I don't really give a shit, I hope Washington makes life miserable for him and his family. If they thought it would be easy to get out of this contract and go play for somebody else, make sure it isn't . Whatever they had planned for him after Seattle, Washington should do everything they can to blow that up. Let him figure something else out. There are consequences when you try and screw someone.

Demond Williams signed a deal to return to Washington last week. It will be interesting to see this unfolds with that deal at Washington in place. Sources indicated to ESPN that the deal he signed was near the top of the market.
