Have just seen that it was an Achilles rupture that Cheick Doucoure suffered, and he's made 13 appearances for Palace since November 2023. 13 games in two and a half years. I'm gutted for Ekitike because it has to be the most brutal injury in the sport. Miles worse than an ACL.

His career might be over No player has come back and been at a top top level with this injury

That’s one of the nastiest injuries a player can suffer. It’s the largest and strongest tendon in the human body. It’s like breaking a motorcycle’s centre stand. And worse still, it doesn’t heal easily. In the process of healing, it also gets easily infected, and that can be another round of trouble. I feel bad for him. I hope he recovers well.

So the story goes—as told to me by one of the bar tenders at Holywood—older kids went as far as locking wee Rory in one of the lockers when it came time for Junior tournaments. It was their only chance of winning one. As you can see, Rory won the Holywood club championship in 2005. And this is the (growing) shrine that sits outside the bar/restaurant that we saw on TV on Sunday. The course itself is a lot like @goathillpark. Not long. Narrow. Lots of undulations. To walk it is a good workout. Forces you to hit every club and every shot. No pretentiousness. Kids everywhere. Blue collar as far as clubs in Northern Ireland go.) The first time I played there was in 2015, on Rory’s recommendation. (He was hosting the Irish Open at RCD.) He called ahead to his buddy, who worked behind the counter. He set me and my best buddy up. Have been back on most of my trips to Northern Ireland. Given its place in golf history, and the warmth of the welcome, insane value.
