@Metaleka_ also this just wasn't the case in 2013 or 2017? Michigan had a 2-point attempt to take the lead with 32 seconds left in 2013 and had the ball down 4 with 2:47 left in 2017, despite being massive underdogs in each. 2015 and 2019 are accurate.

Marshall: 129 carries for 861 yards (6.7 ypc) and 8 TDs

@SpartanFourLife Everyone steals signs. The advance scouting rule is in place to mitigate costs. Michigan was punished to the severity it was for its defiance and frustration with the NCAA. If you think iPhone footage from 200+ feet away is more valuable than the all-22, you're an idiot.

@RedCedarRebel Izzo's 1999-2015 is one of the great runs in modern college basketball history. Since? He's been a very good coach but not a special one. Just one Final Four and three Sweet 16s in his last ten tournaments.
English

@SpartanDawgsEL You can certainly chirp him for never winning a natty himself, but he made two title games in just three seasons in college. Izzo has made one in thirty.
English

@ctfan7774 There are lunatics and ignorant folks in every fanbase, but more Michigan fans subscribe to Kenpom than anyone else. It's been that way since the early Beilein era. But ok.
English

@CBeshJr Anyone who definitely claims any one team to be the best, is being crazy with how tough it is to compare seasons/era. Calling them one of the best is pretty reasonable given their dominance? I'd argue '24 UConn is in similar company. Also UM fans are not at all new to Kempom

English

@SpartyWRLD The golden age of Michigan State basketball was 1998-2010. Michigan absolutely tanked through that period but was a better program before then and has been slightly better since then.

NCAA Tournament Wins since 1995 (Tom Izzo Era):
Michigan State - 61 (31 between ‘95-‘09)

@TheConnorPils This is Illinois' first Final Four since 2005 and second since 1989 (when the Illini lost to UM). In that time, Illinois has only made two major bowl games, losing both (02 Sugar and 07 Rose). That's what he means by not making the big stage. They earned it this year though.
English

Michigan vs Illinois, this decade:
Final 4s: TIED (1)
Elite 8s: TIED (2)
Tournament appearances: Illinois 6, Michigan 4
Big 10 Championships: TIED (3)
Michigan has also lost 9 of its last 10 games against the Illini, and hasn’t beat them in football since 2022. Sit down.

@GmingClipz The wild part looking at that is how huge a difference the final game makes. Michigan is now at 9 Final Fours, 16 Elite Eights, and 20 Sweet Sixteens, but is 1-6 in the title game. UConn is 6-0 in the title game. The only difference between being a blue blood or not.

@jillgaebler @AZBandCatSports @ArizonaMBB @Brownbear1999 He's doing the opposite. He's acknowledging their high-level experience and saying the trio do not PLAY like freshmen.
English

@AZBandCatSports @ArizonaMBB @Brownbear1999 Lloyd would never speak unkindly about another team's players. He has class.

Asked Michigan's Dusty May about @ArizonaMBB's trio of freshmen:
"If you've played in the Euro League, you are not a freshman. So let's knock Kharchenkov off of that list."
Also credited Koa Peat & Brayden Burries' Team USA experience and said they "don't look like freshmen."
English

@CEaslickWNEM There are two distinct eras here. Izzo's tournament success was at the top of the sport, but he's regressed to just very good.
2001-2015:
15 Tournaments
10 Sweet Sixteens
7 Elite Eights
5 Final Four
2016-2026:
10 Tournaments
4 Sweet Sixteens
2 Elite Eights
1 Final Four

@NotConnorCook18 can't do it, they'd have to change those graphics of where starters began their career. imagine the shame on Izzo to have a 25-year-old on his 6th school disgracing his noble warrior poets amongst his starting five.

2025: Mizz 21, IL 24
Objectively, they're pretty similar in recent years except the year Illinois tanked, Missouri had one of its best seasons since the 60s.
English

I'll agree they're relatively close, but Missouri has been objectively better overall by almost every metric over the last 3 seasons. I don't think a serious person looks at a single season, then tries to imagine what they think will happen from there. We have to look at a body of actual, on-the-field work. Otherwise, we're picking PSU, LSU, and Clemson to win the Natty.

@gogreen517 That MSU-UNC game came on FOX right after Lions-Packers Thanksgiving football. Same reason Duke-Arkansas (after Chiefs-Cowboys on Thanksgiving) and even more relevant, a random Maryland-UCLA game (after Rams-Panthers Wild Card weekend) are on this list.

@TomFornelli Underwood feasted on Juwan. That's a fact no one will argue with. However, in the last 15 years...
B1G titles: 4-1 Michigan
BTT titles: 3-2 Michigan

Final Fours: 2-0 Michigan
Pretty clear which program is better.

I'm seeing a lot of discourse today about whether Illinois and Michigan are basketball rivals.
The answer is clearly no, they are not.
In order for them to be rivals, Michigan would have to win at some point, and it hasn't done that in any of the last 9 meetings. Michigan's last win over Illinois in basketball was 2,603 days ago.
I hope that settles things for those who weren't sure.
