@VicVijayakumar At large companies, AI can’t fix slow human processes and decision making. Coding is much faster, so now the more real bottlenecks are becoming more obvious. Think about how much time is spent talking about the work, versus doing the actual work.

the paradox of ai adoption at tech companies is that individuals are getting way more done but teams as a whole are not shipping products any faster. in large part this is because the things that were previously low roi / not worth doing are getting automated, but the core business is still too complex to yeet without following the pdlc.

I love that Claude Code admits when it does something by accident. So wholesome.

I wonder if there is anyone out there that is a serious programmer that has a totally unrelated day job Like, really serious stuff. E.g. simulators or game engines. But like works at radioshack or something

@DanielMiessler The dream of any CEO is to just say "let's lock in this process tree that works, and create an orchestrated agent architecture to automate all the things!" This only works if no other employees have an autonomy to make decisions.

@DanielMiessler Any sinlge process can be made deterministic and AI automate-able, but the realities of most large companies is that things change all the time on overlapping timelines, and cross-org alignments take many meetings and political influencing across VPs to get anything done.

Claude Code is about to release a feature called /workflows that I think will be extremely significant. Especially for Enterprise AI. I talked about this in 2024 in a post called Companies Are Just Graphs of Algorithms. Basically the idea is that all work is just an algorithm, i.e., a series of steps to accomplish a goal. Skills and Cowork have been heading in this direction already, and we've seen what that's done to company valuations in various spaces. Well this is closer to the final form. It's turning the regular, expected work that's done in companies into pseudo-deterministic workflows that follow defined SOPs. The human role will be determining what problems to solve (taste, expeirence, etc), building new products from that, and then optimizing these workflows from above. But the work itself will be these workflows executed according to SOPs.

@DanielMiessler I get the sense you have not worked as an IC at a large corporation before with people leadership and process management responsibilities as part of your roles and responsibilities. This stuff is full of human messiness and inadequacies.

I started working on Leetcode problems again. Not to feel something, but to build a library of recurring patterns that SWE's still need to memorize for Leetcode interviews for some reason.

@DanielMiessler In the sequence of "steps to accomplish a goal", the goal itself may change, and things learned during the steps often drastically change the approach.
