@itwasnyme @Matthew19Dillon @MichaelPTKelly There should be no grounds named after any combatants. Couldn't agree more. It is however extremely rare yet the only thing unionists focus on. The GAA is inclusive and naming grounds after combatants is obviously not a good idea.

All over Belfast you now see people proudly wearing GAA tops - unthinkable when I was young due to fears of violence. It truly is becoming a shared city where all identities can be cherished.

I don’t have to. I can speak to members of my own family, and families of friends. We have all suffered at the hands of the IRA. But we must live in the real world. We have to move forward. I am criticising YOUR rage-baiting, not theirs. Don’t you dare accuse me of minimising the suffering of victims and their families. While you, and your contemptuous leader exploit that suffering for political gain, knowing full-well nothing will change. That is shameful. Look at my posts, I do far more than you to combat the rewriting of history. I take the fight to republicanism with a sense of pragmatism and lust for victory. The TUV will destroy Unionism if it is foolishly allowed to lead our movement.

@BaronoftheMaine @HoratioNelson0 @BorderSolution_ @MichaelPTKelly “Lazy, faux-outrageous rage baiting”? Go say that to the Protestant families in Mid ulster who had to watch their loved ones be slaughtered by the IRA in which Martin Mcguiness commanded. That’s not pragmatism. Thats called stupidity and embarrassment.

Whether you like it or not, Martin McGuinness was the duely elected deputy First Minister. Yes he was an IRA commander, but you and I cannot force the Nationalist electorate to reject Sinn Fein repugnance. Both GSTQ/K and The Soldiers Song are National Anthems, and they ought to be respected as such. We have to work with the political realities of Northern Ireland. Our aspirations have to be realistic and modern. So yes, that was pragmatism. Save your lazy, faux-outrageous rage-baiting for the TUV conference.

@BaronoftheMaine @HoratioNelson0 @BorderSolution_ @MichaelPTKelly While unionist parades on the crumlin road and Garvagh road are blocked, you expect unionists to embrace the sectarian GAA and divisive Irish street signs. “We cannot negotiate with people who say what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is negotiable”

No we have not. You are making sweeping and brazen assumptions to back up a bigoted sentiment. The GAA itself is primarily a sporting organisation. The Orange Order is primarily a religious and political organisation. Just because you say it, doesn’t make it true. If you are the aspirational future of the TUV, I shall place a bet in a bookies for the last time in my life, on the collapse of your fantasist party.

@BaronoftheMaine @BorderSolution_ @MichaelPTKelly Funny how you’ve now deflected. A majority of those in the holy lands wear GAA as a political statement. Glad we’ve nailed the notion the GAA isn’t a political organisation.

@BaronoftheMaine @BorderSolution_ @MichaelPTKelly Let’s nail the notion GAA tops aren’t political. GAA clubs glorify ira/Inla terrorists. GAA ulster Chief. Brian Mcevoy defended that custom in 2018. The GAA constitution promotes a united ireland. GAA clubs take part in pro Palestine demonstrations Comparison is legitimate.

It’s a false equivalence. County and club GAA jerseys are not ‘sectarian symbols.’ While I understand and respect the Orange institution, it is, by definition, political. The purpose of wearing a GAA jersey is to show pride in a county or club, or because it’s comfortable. The purpose of wearing an orange sash is to make a political statement. Well within your rights, but not necessarily advised to wear at any/all times. Specific GAA jerseys (such as the aforementioned 1916 example) are political. But comparing a regular GAA jersey to an Orange Sash is ludicrous.

@BaronoftheMaine @BorderSolution_ @MichaelPTKelly Nationalists wear GAA tops through unionists areas all the time- the incident in Conswater in east Belfast being a prime example. Di you think it’s hypocritical of Michael to support the wearing of GAA tops while not supporting the wearing of orange sashes?

Don’t pretend to be a moron. Would you be offended if someone walked on your street in a 1916 Easter Rising Commemorative GAA jersey? You would, as would I. People don’t do that, even though they have the right to do it. Because they don’t want to needlessly offended people.

Just because you have the right to wear a sash while walking down the Falls Road doesn’t mean you should. I don’t understand your desire to needlessly offend people? For one, it is a terrible advertisement for unionism. It’s also highly inappropriate to wear a sash outside of marches and orange business. The Order itself would condemn you.

@BaronoftheMaine @BorderSolution_ @MichaelPTKelly It’s about consistency. Michael’s post was about the increase in GAA tops being worn and how all cultures should be respected, yet doesn’t show the same attitude to the wearing of orange sashes. Why not call that out?

@BaronoftheMaine Stop with the hysterical talking points. It’s cringeworthy. A voluntary coalition of the willing with a weighted majority and cross community consent is achievable. The executive parties are happy with how it is, so it won’t change. Read Tuv proposals before talking about them

Matthew, I did not say the UUP are not in the executive. Those ‘proposals’ are not serious given the TUV’s support for an idealistic, currently unachievable voluntary coalition between them and …? That’s the point, no one knows! Is it a fantasy-driven return to majority rule? Direct rule from London with Dublin-input? Have the TUV learnt nothing from the Anglo-Irish Agreement? The TUV can promise the world, knowing they will never have responsibility for implementing those promises. Instead, they offer nothing but fantasy. Allister is the next incarnation of the Grand Old Duke of York.

This is a story of Protestant under-achievement and, Political dereliction from the DUP and TUV. The old ‘Protestant work ethic’ is still there, but the old jobs aren’t. Instead of crying about educated Catholics, perhaps Jim Allister should bring forward policy proposals designed to improve education outcomes for young Protestants? But he will not. Allister is a grifter and a charlatan. Unionists must not be fooled by this pathetic pound-shop Paisley.

@BaronoftheMaine Uup not in the executive? Uup along with the other executive parties not agree to the programme for government? Maybe look at Tuv proposals on their website instead of stating stuff that isn’t true.

Apart from a brief period between December 1999 and October 2002, the UUP have not led governance since 1972. The DUP have led Unionism since 2003, a period of strategic blunder and political decline. And the TUV have not offered a single solution to the problems facing Unionism, or the province as a whole. So yes, the DUP is a catastrophe, and Jim Allister offers nothing but exploitation.
