@whitegavriel can you please play at futureyard.org? Been thinking of making the Windows 96 Appreciation Society at my local hackspace, Birkenhack. You should get on the Fediverse too.

I just want my computer to boot into a haskell unikernel and a shell with fifty different effect interpreters all very neatly labelled is that too much to ask?

Would folks like it if @DeterminateSys published a NixOS ISO which had flakes enabled and the default configuration.nix was a flake instead?

Would be good if someone at @softwincn could look at #note_2889235" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issu… to resolve firmware issues causing hard resets with the GPU on Linux

@youkhna May be, but I can't run my peaceful Linux on it, nor can I easily build the untrustworthy Android it is running from source.

This isn’t a concept. This isn’t a render. It’s real. It’s running. It’s everything you actually need in a phone and nothing you don’t. 📵 No doomscrolling. ⌨️ Full keyboard. 🔋 Week-long battery. 🧠 Designed to help you think, not sink. #MinimalPhone

@cguida6 It means that you compile linux, and you make sure the dr_mode is set to host, and not to peripheral or otg. I'm not sure why you think you can change this on the running system. The device-tree is something you load when launching the kernel. Haven't seen that work differently.

@cguida6 Can't help with postmarketOS. If you have a device tree with dr_mode set to host, it works fine. I'm not sure what you're talking about with echoing into files. Build Linux with the DTS with dr_mode set to host.

I've tried it, man; I can't get it to work. I've tried these instructions again and again, and i can't get any response from even an external thumb drive #Dts_method" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/OnePlus_6… Just echoing `host` into the `mode` file does not cause the mode to change. I've tried recompiling the kernel with various different mods and no dice. If you have some trick to it I would love to know that that is!

@cguida6 External drives will work fine with SDM845, you just need external power and dr_mode in the device tree set to host instead of otg/peripheral

Awesome! Would you be able to test with an external SSD and charger simultaneously and let me know? I haven't gotten this to work on any modern phone with USB-C yet, and I've tried a whole bunch of phones with nixOS, pmOS, Ubuntu Touch, and Mobian. The OnePlus 6 is an amazing phone, but external drives don't work at all afaict, so I can only sync a pruned bitcoin node, which is not nearly as useful as a full node. The best I've achieved is on the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, which is microusb not USB-C, and will most likely take a few months to sync a full bitcoin node. The Xiaomi Mi A1 allegedly supports USB-C role-switching on pmOS, but the external drive always disconnects as soon as I plug a charger into the PD port on a hub. I have a complicated rig with USB-C to microusb adapters and a microusb elbow hub, but this starts to throw I/O errors after a day or two of syncing.

@joseph_h_garvin latest is just a name. It does not mean it will go and fetch some random shit each time. It means it will look at the "inputs.nixpkgs.url" and flake.lock for a specific ver, or <nixpkgs>. Then it will get the latest that was pinned to. It will never change.

My understanding is that nix is reproducible, but how can it be if there are lines like this in my config? package = config.boot.kernelPackages.nvidiaPackages.latest;

@MatthewCroughan Ah nvm it says storage devices 0 But maybe it supports external ssds? Been looking for any phone that I can plug an SSD and a charger into, that doesn't suck
