@JamesSurowiecki The action here by the DOJ is not being done to make Trump happy. Well, maybe just a little bit... The action here by the DOJ is being done to frighten people – anyone and everyone – into never criticizing Trump, otherwise (expensive) legal action could follow.

This is funny, because he's describing what almost certainly happened, but acting as if it's improbable. Yes, we think the FBI did nothing for 10 months, and then when Blanche realized he had to indict Comey on something to make Trump happy, they went back to the seashells.

@stevenstrogatz Donald has a degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. This would seem to indicate that he’d attended a math class or two. But as facts stand, there’s nothing to indicate that he actually received a passing grade in any class requiring math skills.

As a math teacher, I always try to understand what is confusing to a student. Here, the confusion is about two numbers (100 and 600) that differ by a factor of 6. That concept is being conflated with a 600% rise or drop.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

RFK Jr: "A Democratic senator claimed it's mathematically impossible to have a drug drop by 600%. I said, 'Well, if the drug was $100 and it raises to $600, that would be a 600% rise. If it drops from $600 to $100, that's a 600% savings.'" Trump: "Right"

@paulg Watching all of Trump’s lackeys willingly go their daily humiliation rituals is one of the most depressing things ever. Anyways… We’re now at the “2+2=5” point with this administration. It won’t be long before we reach the “Oceana has always been at war with Eastasia” portion.

@pmarca @grok I’m a bit confused… Over the course of 9 years the SPLC paid about $3 million to informants within various hate groups, and the information gained led to guilty verdicts and court ordered penalties of more than $40 million dollar against these groups. How is this a bad thing?

So @grok, we all just discovered that the SPLC has allegedly been funding some of the worst of the people and groups it claims to oppose. What are other activist pressure groups that advocate censorship/deplatforming of their enemies that could be doing the same thing?

@waitbutwhy Serious question: how is this an example of someone going against their principles while still supporting the team? The SPLC paid informants $3 million over the course of 9 years, and used the information to win verdicts/settlements of more than $40 million. And is this bad?

@t_xu @POTUS Serious question: why-oh-why would you want your business associated in any sort of way with a self-proclaimed pu🐈🐈y grabber, who also happens to be the most obvious con man in the world? I fail to see the benefit.

Dashers have delivered billions of orders but this was our first to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! Sharon, a Dasher and grandma from Arkansas, knocked on the Oval Office door to thank @POTUS for delivering No Tax on Tips, a policy that helps millions of hardworking Americans keep more of what they earn. This is the kind of change that can happen when tens of thousands of Dashers like Sharon make their voices heard.

@McnallieM @IREN_Ltd Taxes are due exactly one week from today. As a general trend, stocks that have had disproportionate gains during the course of a year – which IREN certainly has – will often see churn in the week or two prior to tax day. And then things tend to stabilize afterwards.

@mehul @tferriss Honestly, it’s just okay at vacuuming. Good enough for minor pieces of dirt and food crumbs, but there’s a tendency to jam up whenever anything bigger than bread crumbs get caught in the vacuum head. It’s just easier (and far fewer hassles) to do a first pass with an upright.

@KYRRadio I just took a look at Exxon’s stock price. And though it’s been volatile this past month (of course it has), it’s only up about 7% these past thirty days, which seems insane to me.

This is dead on the money. With the Houthis in northern Yemen you’re not getting it out of the Red Sea. Until strait is open oil goes higher. Remember, the longer it goes on, the longer oil stays elevated which lowers the risk of an oil crash. Look at the producers. They’re already cheap. Only up 13% ytd. Every day this goes on their earnings are going higher. Did I mention they’re cheap?

@sama What is the action/red line that an administration must cross where your company would not only NOT be willing to go along with the action, but you yourself feel it would be important to condemn the action publicly?

Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network. In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome. AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement. We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only. We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements. We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

@SecWar This week, Anthropic delivered a master class in moral standing and guiding principles as well as a textbook case of how not to capitulate to the United States Government’s new found love of war crimes.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
This week, Anthropic delivered a master class in arrogance and betrayal as well as a textbook case of how not to do business with the United States Government or the Pentagon. Our position has never wavered and will never waver: the Department of War must have full, unrestricted access to Anthropic’s models for every LAWFUL purpose in defense of the Republic. Instead, @AnthropicAI and its CEO @DarioAmodei, have chosen duplicity. Cloaked in the sanctimonious rhetoric of “effective altruism,” they have attempted to strong-arm the United States military into submission - a cowardly act of corporate virtue-signaling that places Silicon Valley ideology above American lives. The Terms of Service of Anthropic’s defective altruism will never outweigh the safety, the readiness, or the lives of American troops on the battlefield. Their true objective is unmistakable: to seize veto power over the operational decisions of the United States military. That is unacceptable. As President Trump stated on Truth Social, the Commander-in-Chief and the American people alone will determine the destiny of our armed forces, not unelected tech executives. Anthropic’s stance is fundamentally incompatible with American principles. Their relationship with the United States Armed Forces and the Federal Government has therefore been permanently altered. In conjunction with the President's directive for the Federal Government to cease all use of Anthropic's technology, I am directing the Department of War to designate Anthropic a Supply-Chain Risk to National Security. Effective immediately, no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic. Anthropic will continue to provide the Department of War its services for a period of no more than six months to allow for a seamless transition to a better and more patriotic service. America’s warfighters will never be held hostage by the ideological whims of Big Tech. This decision is final.

If a top AI CEO in China told the CCP to go kick rocks when they asked for help, that CEO would be instantly sent to prison. This is the correct approach Letting AI CEOs play politics and dictate policy for the military and soon the entire country like their own personal fiefdoms is appalling and undemocratic If Trump doesnt bring Dario to heel now, we will simply end up completely subjugated by him and his lunatic EA buddies
Jawwwn@jawwwn_

Palantir CEO Alex Karp on controversial uses of AI: “Do you really think a warfighter is going to trust a software company that pulls the plug because something becomes controversial, with their life?” “The small island of Silicon Valley— that would love to decide what you eat, how you eat, and monetize all your data— should not also decide who lives in a country and under what conditions.” “The core issue is— who decides?”
