Indy has finally reached the point where it is ready to be discovered by national migrants. Real urban amenities at scale. Leading edge suburban development. There's no guarantee it will be discovered, but the potential is there. (Probably true in some other Midwest places too).

The big difference in "middle class" costs today is the need to purchase insulation from growing American dysfunction. There are simply fewer functional, socially, economically & physically intact places to live today than there were in the 1980s & the ones that exist are $$$.

@DavidPepper It's collective traumatization. It happened so quickly and so completely that they found themselves unable to cope. The demoralization is overwhelming. Accepting 'outside help' would require acknowledging the traumatization instead of continuing to live in a collective PTSD.

Andrew in his liberal, tolerant bubble and can't figure out why gay teens in huge swathes of the country are sad their life can't be as good and tolerant as other gays in liberal bubbles. It doesn't help a gay teen in Iran that German teens enjoy freedoms

The gay generation with the greatest freedom of any in history is mired in depression and despair. We need to ask where we're going so badly wrong.

@talentedmrtexan @sullydish I wouldn't call two regions containing half the country's population 'bubbles.' It does help a gay teen in Biloxi that New York teens enjoy freedoms.

@petesaunders3 This is all about real and/or perceived wealth and power. That's it. It's a way of exercising power in a system that robs people of a sense of control of their lives. This is equally true for all involved.

@sullydish It's mostly because older gays like you want to believe gays are no longer bullied because you have never been to the US south or other bigoted areas and are in a liberal bubble of more freedom for LGBT groups...since everything is great for you, you don't bother to empathize
