From Lenny Bruce to Joe Rogan: @MatthewdAncona traces the long, unlikely road by which court jesters became kingmakers—and asks what happens when we trust comedians more than our elected leaders

@pinkandtweed I had a once-in-a-lifetime cat called Arthur. They're all good'uns!

@ChurchTimes @MatthewdAncona That the secular frame is insufficient for reading contemporary power is worth saying. But what of an account of _why_ the sacred returns, what form matters, which manifestations are genuinely emancipatory versus those that merely dress false transcendence in new clothes.

@Ed014895441 @ChurchTimes @Edthornton It's a great honour to be in @Churchtimes. What a strange thing to say. Nothing wrong with data as long as you don't expect a single metric to explain everything
English

@MatthewdAncona @ChurchTimes @Edthornton Data doesn’t matter? You remain in the realm of wishful thinking. Plus, why have you written this puff stuff in the Church Times?

My first piece for @ChurchTimes - on the return of the sacred, the mystical and the enchanted to the public sphere
Thank you Sarah Meyrick and @Edthornton for the commission

@Ed014895441 @ChurchTimes @Edthornton The problem with that response is that your definition of "evidence" is so narrow. Church attendance is one data point. We live in an age of networks not institutions

@Ed014895441 @ChurchTimes @Edthornton Church attendance is not what I’m discussing. It’s a sensibility
English

@MatthewdAncona @ChurchTimes @Edthornton Wishful thinking. Refer him to John Curtice in this very issue of Church Times. As well as the other people who have the data.
