What a period for Buffalo. Even better period for Sean McDonough. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. I’m not sure there is a better announcer on the planet than McDonough. It doesn’t matter the sport either. He is great at everything.

This could be - at least partially - due to an adjustment in what analysts see as the TAM in currently non-legal OAB states. Growth multiples have some expectations around what states will open up down the road and instead of the usual playing field of signing up new bettors + converting offshore/paperhead dollars, OSBs will now also have to contend with established, legal prediction market offerings in those states

if you look at volumes and earnings for sports betting apps like draftkings, they don’t seem materially affected by prediction markets but revenue multiples / valuations have compressed significantly actual usage metrics vs perception are divorced, wonder if/when that’ll shift

For sure. Look, no doubt that a regulated book taking on the risk in order to maintain those long odds for the average customer is def a better experience. I’m just saying that it’s still handle, which if offered the same way (“no” sides with low/no vig), books would juice their handle too. The argument is whether this handle is the same quality as regulated books (in terms of margin and customers - which I’d say it isn’t)

DraftKings cofounder (who stepped down and has a new biz, Hardscope) goes off on Kalshi. Fascinating thread. He says… - Kalshi 2-3 years of development away - product not there yet & very niche - Kalshi spending too much to acquire customers “checks their ass can’t cash”
Matt Kalish@mattkalish

Idk what people are smoking, there’s not a single exchange product experience for normal people that is remotely close to the delivering the caliber of experience that regulated sportsbooks do. They are 2-3 years of development away (before regulatory touches the product at all)

You’re leaving out the fact that for the $0.02 wager to occur, another paying customer had to effectively bet $0.98 on the “no”. In the rare scenario where we would offer both sides of a market at DK, we would have absolutely recognized the full $1 of handle if someone bet $0.02 on yes and $0.98 on no (in fact, more than $1 because our prices would have been more like $0.025 and $0.985). I’m with you on the UI/UX critiques, but not on this

My brother Kalshi defines their volume as “amount real customers bet” Plus “Amount you win if you win the bet” By same definition DK was 2.5 trillion of volume last year. FD likely similar. Industry wide probably 10 trillion It is done on purpose by Kalshi to be confusing & conflate with standard sports betting volume reporting, so PR can run with it. Likely also to confuse investment community about it.

Why is it 93-1 if you bet $10 and 38-1 if you bet $1000 on something

Chris Camillo explains why the Sweetgreen wrap might be a good trade “Right now I’m looking at the Sweetgreen wrap. It’s not really a trade yet. They came out with this product 8 days ago and it could make their salad product portable for the first time. That means there’s potential for a mega social arb trade.” “What you’re looking for is if the conversation converts from paid influencers to real users and really goes viral” “I’m reading every TikTok comment about Sweetgreen wraps, I’m talking to clerks, I’m reading reviews”
