Our skipper will have to undergo an operation for a broken arm unfortunately, so that’s a killer. Having said that, he sticks to the spirit, comes back from hospital and avoids a fine for ‘no pub’ after the game. 🖤🤍

Not all War Memorials take the conventional route. They could also take the form of memorial hospitals, memorial almshouses, and, in the case of Southwell in Nottinghamshire, memorial parks and open spaces. These were also options chosen to remember the fallen.

@sommecourt I fear we need more men like him now than anytime since the end of the Second World War.

@OldFrontLinePod Great podcast as always paul. A place I am always drawn to both physically when on the Somme and mentally when the mind wanders and transports me to that low rising ridge with is open landscape and vast skies. Alone but not alone! Keep up the great work.

@TerryWhenham Episode 2 appears to be a shortened repeat of the 1st episode, is this correct or am I missing something?

@footsteps_pod Only recently discovered that you can ascend the tower of the church in Mesen up to a viewing platform. It’s an amazing view of the battlefield from up there but only for those with a good head for heights!
